James Corden opened up about his friendship with superstar singer Harry Styles in an interview on The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM Wednesday.
The 44-year-old Late Late Show host was asked by 69-year-old Stern if, as a celebrity, he found it annoying not to draw all the attention in the room in the presence of the Grammy-winning singer, 29.
“I didn’t find it annoying in any way,” Corden said. ‘I just think [Styles is] so special as a human being, but actually you don’t have any of those feelings because… like there’s someone out there who wants to embrace the world they live in as best they can and you never feel like that.’
The UK-born funny man and the One Direction alum have been on holiday together, which Stern asked Corden about.
“I don’t know if I’d do well with Harry Styles and everyone at the goddamn resort comes up and calls his name, you know what I mean?” Stern said. “Do you all have to deal with that?”

Corden responded, “I think it’s good for me, I think any time you can be a little bit humble is great, so when someone comes forward… I’m like, ‘I got it.’ This is perhaps the most desirable, famous man on the planet right now.”
Corden said he often took photos of Styles and fans while on vacation and was spotted in the presence of the As It Was singer as an afterthought.
He said his time with Styles was “really, really good” and “something positive.” [his] to live.’
Corden said he tried to follow Styles’ nutritional path while on an outing with the singer.
“When we went on vacation, I made this pact where I said, ‘I’m only going to eat if you eat. I’m going to work out if you work out and I’m going to eat what you eat and I think it’s good.’ will have a very positive impact on me,” he said.
Corden continued, “He was like, ‘OK’ — I’ve been holding out for 36 hours and I’m like, ‘No, I’m out.’ Once I’ve had a drink, I’m like, “I need to get some fries and I’m on vacation.”‘
In the interview, Corden, who wraps up his CBS late night series Thursday, said the guest he most regrets not being on his Carpool Karaoke segment is Paul Simon.
“I adore him,” said Corden, noting that he has fond memories of his childhood listening to Simon’s 1986 album Graceland with his family.

“My mom would just sleep and the four of us would sing every word… that album, I think, could be perfect,” he said of the record.
Referring to the song Gumboots, Corden said, “He’s got a lyric where he says, ‘You don’t feel you could love me, but I feel you could,” which I think sums up how any sort of stereotypically unattractive boy at age 14 or 15 thinks about every girl in their school at that time…it’s so optimistic.”
Corden told Stern that he had come up with plans for Simon to appear in the segment.
“I felt like I’d try and surprise my mom and my dad and sisters and we’d all get in this car and sing the song, but… it’s hard to get, like it should be.”
