James Bond’s latest theme song will make a drastic break from the film franchise’s mournful ballads of yesteryear – at least if producer Barbara Broccoli has her way.
While the 62-year-old producer, who co-created the Bond franchise with her half-brother Michael G. Wilson, is still looking for the perfect star to fill 007’s shoes after Daniel Craig stepped down from the role, it is believed she has been working hard on some new ideas for the theme song.
The most recent Bond films starring 56-year-old Craig have been accompanied by very soulful ballads – but now Barbara is keen to ‘mix it up’ in a bid to attract new fans to the spy franchise.
“Barbara is very interested in the next Bond theme being funnier, more pop rock and not filled with as much sadness as the last few themes,” a source told DailyMail.com.
The source added that Barbara “loves” what pop icons Billie Eilish, Sam Smith and Adele have done in the past with iconic 007 songs, but doesn’t want to rest on her laurels when it comes to their successes.

The 62-year-old producer, who co-creates the Bond franchise with her half-brother Michael G. Wilson, said they are still trying to cast Daniel’s successor and are in no rush to do so.
“It would be safe to go down that path again, especially since they all won the Oscar,” the source continued.
“But this next Bond needs to mix it up and return to a song in the vein of Duran Duran, A View to a Kill,” they added.
According to the source, the Bond theme should be anthemic, but also upbeat and able to “resonate with both established fans of the series and new fans.”
“Barbara feels like someone like Bruno Mars or The Weeknd could do something fun, or that a band like the Foo Fighters or Adam Levine could have a catchy and fun theme on their own or with Maroon 5,” the source mused.
They added that the famed producer knows that offering a Bond theme is a ‘once-in-a-lifetime experience’ for any artist and is keen to find a younger star to fill the converted position.
“Barbara knows that the offer to play a Bond theme is something that applies to every artist and she wants to get younger, and whoever gets the final decision will be because it is different from the last few films,” say she. explained.
“That’s the only condition that has to be met when they come up with the theme for the next film, it has to be an exciting song that will be remembered forever.”
In 2020, Billie Eilish became the youngest person to ever perform a title track for the spy film series, which started in 1962. Fans raved that the song gave them “chills” and praised her haunting version of the Bond theme song. Billie co-wrote the song No Time to Die with her brother Finneas, and the two also made her debut album together.
“It feels crazy to be a part of this in every way possible. It is a tremendous honor to score the theme song for a film that is part of such a legendary series,” Eilish said in a statement at the time.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is about to sign a deal to become the next James Bond
Recently, Lana Del Rey revealed that she had written a theme song for the James Bond film Spectre, but it was rejected in favor of Sam Smith’s Writing’s On The Wall.
The 38-year-old singer wrote the song, which appeared on her 2015 album Honeymoon, for Daniel Craig’s penultimate run as 007.
At the Ivor Novello Awards, Lana, who won the Special International Award, was asked by the BBC why she didn’t perform a Bond theme.
Lana responded, “I mean, how did that not happen? I wrote [24] for them.’ The track ended up on her fourth studio album Romantic.
She continued, “Sam, you did a great job. Maybe one day… But I’ll keep doing my little Nancy Sinatra thing every now and then and pretend it’s the title track.”
The Eon Productions were reportedly planning to start filming the next James Bond film in 2024.
While it has been widely reported that 33-year-old Aaron Taylor-Johnson has formally been cast in the role of the ultra-smooth British spy, nothing has been confirmed yet.
