James Blunt vows to LEGALLY change his name to ‘Blunty McBluntface’ if his album re-release makes it to number one in the charts

James Blunt has vowed to legally change his name to ‘Blunty McBluntface’ if his new album goes number one in the charts.

He is re-releasing his 2004 Back To Bedlam and previously promised to change his name to ‘whatever the public wanted’ if the music reached the top.

And the reveal of what the public had chosen after the vote came in a sketch video posted to his social media on Sunday.

The 50-year-old singer released Back To Bedlam twenty years ago and the record contained big hits such as You’re Beautiful, High, Wisemen and Goodbye My Lover.

The album reached number one on the UK album chart for weeks and has now been certified 10x platinum.

To celebrate his twentieth birthday, the Hampshire star is re-releasing the album and going on tour.

The reveal took place in the sketch video in which he was seen trying to enter a Warner Music Group building but was stopped by the front desk as they would not accept his name as ‘James Blunt’.

He then tries to get in by using some of the most competitive names like ‘Jimmy Spliff’, ‘Blames Junt’, ‘Divock Origi’, ‘James Cucking Funt’ and ‘Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Pop Star Four Chord Song Machiney ‘. but they don’t work.

He looks deflated and his last guess is ‘Blunty McBluntface’, and he finally gets in.

He then mutters, “People have no imagination,” to which the receptionist replies, “The people have spoken.”

In a video on his Instagram, the singer previously announced: ‘My name is James Blunt and you have the power to absolutely fuck my life.

“I know you’ve heard the rumors, and they’re true. I’m re-releasing my debut album Back To Bedlam on October 11th. Something that has kept me consistently wealthy for the past twenty years.

‘So as a way of giving back to you, my adoring audience, I will legally change my name if Back To Bedlam re-enters the charts at number one. What am I going to change it to? Well, it’s entirely up to you.

“I’ve been called a lot of things in my life, ‘the most hated man in pop music’, ‘annoying’, ‘James Beige’, I let the people decide.”

He then added, “But if it doesn’t get to number one, I’m not changing my name. It’s safe to say this is the most important democratic moment of the year.”

James repeated the same promise when he appeared on Radio X’s Chris Moyles Show on Monday.

He announced the choice on his Instagram

He said: ‘I’ve signed up to change my name to whatever the public wants – they can change my name.

‘It’s a real thing. I swear on my life and that of my only fan – Brian from Glasgow – that I will change my name if it goes number one.’

The singer continued, “Yes. I swear on Brian’s life and my life. Whatever the audience wants – and of course the audience will be friendly, they wouldn’t go for something that rhymes with Blunt, would they?

“But you know, as long as that’s not the case, you know, Blunty McBluntface.”

James explained to the radio host that it was a way to encourage fans to buy the new album.

He revealed that High was the first hit on the chart, followed by the success of Wiseman and You’re Beautiful.

“High was the first single,” James said. ‘So we released High, and that got a bit of radio visibility at that point, all over Radio X – this is my natural home!’

He added: ‘And then we released Wisemen, and the album went into the top 20 and then the killer, You’re Beautiful, hit that stage in 2005, and the rest is a terrible, terrible story!

The 20th anniversary reissue will be released on October 11 and features a number of previously unreleased tracks, including Standing All Alone, Close Your Eyes, Butterfly and B-side track Sugar-Coated.
