James Blunt has revealed that he ended up ‘looking like a waiter’ at one of Elton’s John’s black-tie parties after hiring a cheap suit for the occasion.

The singer, 48, made this candid confession on Amanda Wakeley’s Style DNA podcast this week while discussing his past fashion disasters.

The former British army officer recounted how he arrived “looking ridiculous” and “feeling like a jerk” while all the other celebrities “appeared like pop stars”.

Oh no! James Blunt has revealed that he ended up ‘looking like a waiter’ at one of Elton’s John’s white tie parties after hiring a cheap suit for the occasion (pictured last year)

He said: ‘Sometimes, if I’m given instructions, I show up as directed! So I showed up to Elton John and David Furnish’s white tie and tiara party, having just gotten out of the army and become a pop star.

‘So I had just gone out and rented a white tie and tiara. And she showed up looking ridiculous. And everyone else was a pop star and just showed up as a pop star!

‘So I was the only one, I looked like a waiter and I looked like an idiot. And so I learned the hard way, I won’t do that again.’

Continuing the fashion conversation, James also opened up about his worst moment in fashion, saying he once ended up in a less-than-ideal situation after a night out while on a ski vacation.

He said: ‘In terms of dressing… I remember walking home from a party at around six in the morning. It’s not the walk of shame, it was a long party.

It was through Verbier. And I was dressed as a woman in high heels, and there was a guy in a Porsche stuck in a snowdrift.

‘I offered to help him push his Porsche out of the snow, fully dressed as a woman but obviously not a woman, he begged me not to help him!’

It comes after BBC Breakfast viewers were shocked late last year when they called an interview with James “unprofessional” and “bizarre”.

The Goodbye My Lover singer appeared in the studio to talk about his tour, but was questioned about plastic surgery and his opinion of Uber.

During the talk with Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty there were several awkward silences and jokes from the presenters that did not land, which did not go unnoticed by the viewers.

Viewers were perplexed by the random nature of the chat, taking to Twitter to write: ‘Stupid irrelevant questions. What were you thinking?’; “What a terrible Charlie and Naga interview, we had to turn it off because it was so awful, even James Blunt thought so.”

“Personally I think JB is great and a lot of fun on Twitter but the @BBCBreakfast team completely ruined what could have been a fun interview.” Instead, it was awkward and very little fun. Just let the guest flow. Charlie and Naga are clumsy at best’;

‘Breakfast TV on the BBC should be moved to CBBies or removed. I have never seen anything less professional than the interview with Mr. Blunt. Naga and Charlie pathetic. It was on par with Dan Walkers’ out-of-depth questioning.

James kicked off a nine-date UK arena tour in early 2022, celebrating songs spanning a 17-year career that has sold over 23 million albums, as well as five Grammy Award nominations.
