‘Have you been living under a rock?’: James Blunt, 49, was at it again Wednesday when he responded to a fan who said they had never heard of his hit single, You’re Beautiful.
‘Stuck In 1973’: The Singer Shared A User Tweet: ‘I Used @Shazam To Discover James Blunt’s You’re Beautiful’
James has previously attacked trolls on social media who accused him of writing a “shallow as fuck” song about a girl he “barely knew”.
He mocked the critic and told him that his hit song, You’re Beautiful, was actually written about an ex-girlfriend.
Despite claiming that the song was written about a past love, James previously said that the song is a commentary on people who fall instantly in love in public spaces like the subway.
James’ response on Twitter seemed to mock the fact that he had already confirmed the meaning behind the song.
The social media user wrote: “I was reminded of the song ‘You’re Beautiful’ by James Blunt. It’s a fucked up song if you listen to it.
“It’s about a guy who sees a girl and falls ‘in love’ based solely on her physical appearance. He doesn’t know anything else about her. He’s shallow as fuck and a bit s****y.
James snapped back, ‘Er, she was my ex-girlfriend.’
The singer spoke about the meaning of the song to the Huffington Post, saying that anyone who chooses it as their wedding song is “fucked.”
Joking: The composer, known for his hilarious responses on social media, was quick to respond to the Tweet, writing: ‘WTF? You’ve been living under a rock!?’
‘That’s a bit blunt’: Fans were quick to take to the comments to joke that the women had clearly ‘been stuck in 1973′ referencing another of James’ hit songs
He said: ‘Everyone says, ‘Oh, it’s so romantic. I want ‘You’re Beautiful’ as my wedding song. These people are screwed.
‘They tag you with these things like, ‘Oh, James Blunt. Isn’t he just a soft romantic?’ Well fuck that. I’m not. ‘You’re Beautiful’ is not a fucking soft romantic song.
“It’s about a guy who’s high as a fucking kite on the subway stalking someone else’s girlfriend when that guy is there in front of him, and he should be locked up or jailed for being some kind of pervert.” ‘
In 2020, James revealed how a super fan once demanded he pay her royalties for the hit song You’re Beautiful after claiming the singer was harassing her.
The musician explained how the American woman had claimed that she was the woman he sings about seeing on the subway in his popular tune that premiered 19 years ago.
No Way: James released the hit single 19 years ago in 2004 and it sold more than four million copies that year (pictured in 2005)
Talking with SunJames said: ‘It was pretty scary. He’s pretty fervent that she’s the woman for me from the subway.
“She sent me a detailed 50-page document on how I’ve been harassing her, and that’s kind of scary.
“I had to point out that I wasn’t on the subway in 1984, which is when she claimed she saw me… I would have been ten years old and the first time I visited the United States was in 2002. So that was all a bit strange.
On his hit single, which sold more than four million copies after its 2004 release, James sings about seeing an ‘angel’ who ‘smiled at him on the subway’ in the first verse.
James told the publication that because he was able to prove that the woman, whose name is not known, was not the person in his hit, no further legal action was needed.
