James Arthur debuts his newly lit locks after revealing he had been mocked by internet trolls for his shaggy haircut

He recently revealed that he is wearing a hat after being mocked for his new shaggy haircut.

However, James Arthur chose to proudly show off his newly lit locks when he arrived for a BBC Radio 2 gig in London on Saturday.

The former X Factor winner, 35, nailed the 1970s retro style with shoulder-length barnet in loose, natural curls.

James completed the look with a denim shirt he wore over a black ensemble and Chelsea boots.

Protecting his eyes behind sunglasses, the singer appeared cheerful and stopped to pose for selfies with fans.

It comes after James said he was forced to wear a thick wool hat at the height of summer after cruel internet trolls mocked his shaggy haircut.

He wore the big beanie under hot studio lights during an interview on This Morning.

But James admitted that his decision to don it for a national TV appearance had nothing to do with fashion.

Bearing an uncanny resemblance to Mancunian singer-songwriter Badly Drawn Boy, he said, “I struggled a lot with the hair. So I thought I’d put it under the hat today so people can listen to me and not comment on the hair.”

Referring to his unruly mop of hair, the star, who revealed that working on The X Factor was like “a pressure pot,” added: “This does contour a bit, it’s kind of gotten out of hand at the moment.”

Despite being hammered on social media for his latest look, James insisted he’s in a ‘good place’ after previously struggling with high anxiety during previous performances this morning.

He told hosts Craig Doyle and Josie Gibson, “Any kind of live TV, probably because of the nature of how I grew up, but probably having a kid drove me nuts.”

Arthur also reflected on the “pressure pot” of fame after previously describing his battle with depression and a past suicide attempt.

He said, ‘It was the best and worst experience of my life. It was a pressure pot. I struggled in the aftermath.

“When I see that…it has given me this incredible career. But it was also traumatic.’

When asked if he has any advice for people going into TV talent shows, he said: ‘There’s no handbook for anyone.

“I was plucked from oblivion. Most people on X Factor are like me, they come from nowhere, they’re not prepared for fame.

‘I wasn’t prepared for it, I wanted to be a singer-songwriter. Not to be famous or to be judged on that scale.’

He continued, “I think I always thought I’d get somewhere in music because I had an unwavering belief in my music.

“I didn’t think X Factor would be my route. I ran out of money, my mom bribed me, she said I’d give you a tenner if you auditioned for the X Factor.

“I am so grateful to Simon Cowell for continuing to give me opportunities. I wouldn’t have been able to break through without the X Factor, because you need money.

“I grew up with rock music, but to be known as a balladeer is great.”
