Jake Paul insists Tommy Fury’s career is being ruined by John Fury

Jake Paul believes Tommy Fury’s career is being ruined by his father and trainer John Fury ahead of their showdown in Saudi Arabia this weekend, insisting the Brit hasn’t improved since they first met in 2021.

‘The Problem Child’ faces the toughest challenge of his career to date on Sunday when he takes on professional boxer Fury 8-0 in Saudi Arabia, in what marks the third time the pair are scheduled to fight.

Fury twice withdrew from bouts against Paul, first in December 2021 due to illness and injury, and then in August of last year when their showdown at Madison Square Garden was canceled and Fury was barred from entering the United States. .

Since their proposed 2021 clash, Paul has beaten MMA legends Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva, while Fury outpointed Daniel Bocianski in his only professional outing. Fury then disappointed in an exhibition fight against Rolly Lambert last November.

And Paul, speaking exclusively to sports mail before the fight, he insisted that Tommy’s father, with whom he has furiously clashed on numerous occasions, is to blame for the Briton’s lack of progress.

“I’m improving 33 percent every year, because I’ve only been boxing three years,” Paul said. ‘I’m increasing exponentially, whereas Tommy has for 12 years, so how much can his skill level really improve?

“He’s really stuck in his boxing form, especially with his father training him.”

“He’s worked with other trainers who are much better, but his father is actually hindering him and making him a worse fighter.”

In fact, while Fury has worked with other coaches, including brief stints with Ricky Hatton and Shayne McGuigan, his father has always been by his side. ‘My dad is my main coach; he’s always been my main coach,’ Fury told Sportsmail last week.

“For anyone who says we can’t do this or that, this is another fight where we’ll show you what we can do.”

Now, more than ever for Fury, that has to be true. The 23-year-old failed to impress as he went the full six rounds against Bocianski earlier in the night before his brother Tyson stopped Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium last year.

He also couldn’t stop Anthony Taylor and Jordan Grant in his previous two outings. In perhaps a telling stat, the four opponents Fury has stopped have a combined record of two wins, two draws and 72 losses.

It’s fair to argue that Paul is now Fury’s toughest test to date, based not just on skill, but on the occasion itself. Fury has been an undercard fighter throughout his career thus far: He’ll headline a pro fight for the first time on Sunday.

Fury may end up handling the occasion well, but Paul and his team predict otherwise, particularly with the pressure his own family has placed on his shoulders. Both John and Tyson have insisted that Tommy will have no choice but to retire in defeat.

And Paul, who admits he’s a fan of both John and Tyson, insists that not only is Tommy’s career at stake, but his family name is also in the line of fire.

“It’s unfortunate to have to face the smallest of the family and hurt the Fury family name,” he said.

‘Tommy deserves it. he and john they look bad because they’ve been so proud and loud about how he’s going to knock me out, about how I’ll never box again.

‘John sees no way he can beat Tommy. He’ll look bad when he does that. I think that will hurt the Fury family name, but I think Tyson is exempt from that.’

“He should have fought me in 2021,” he continued. ‘It probably would have been a close fight, and now they’re knocking him out.

‘Him being scared actually hurt him in the long run. I think he’s still going to be scared, the moment is still going to affect him. But now, they’re going to knock him out.’

Where Fury turns next, even with the win, is far from clear. But for Paul, the path is perhaps easier. He is already in talks with YouTuber KSI about a year-end showdown. He is also negotiating a two-fight boxing and MMA contract with Nate Diaz as he prepares to venture into a new combat sport next year.

Importantly, Paul insists that these bouts will not stop him from reaching his ultimate goal of becoming world boxing champion. In fact, it’s mere fantasy to most viewers, but the WBC has now promised to rank Paul should he defeat Fury, much to the anger of many in the industry.

But for Paul himself, it’s just another step in the right direction: The American fully intends to pursue a more traditional route later in his career.

“It’s something I’m going to do,” he said. ‘For now, I’m getting additional experience, additional training camps under my belt.

‘This is the process, it is the toughest sport in the world. You have to improve, little by little, day by day, working very hard.

“But eventually I’m going to get away from the big pay-per-views, the big names, and start fighting people in the rankings and eventually for the belt.”

However, you must first complete the task at hand. But whatever level Tommy Fury proves to be at, a win for Paul would look like a royal statement.
