Humphrey wrote on Twitter: ‘After 10 wonderful years I am taking a step back at BT. As a football fan, hosting Premier League matches, FA Cup matches and European finals meant everything to me. It has been my dream job. I loved being a very small part of a world-class production team.”

“I also feel blessed to have shared the screen with legends of the game and incredible broadcasters, who have become friends. Thanks everyone.

‘When I joined BT in 2013 I had no children, Whisper Group was still in its infancy and I didn’t even know what a podcast was!

“A decade later, Whisper now has hundreds of team members I want to work with more, and the impact of High Performance amazes me every day. I’m also not ashamed to say that I remain hugely ambitious.

‘Taking a step back from BT gives me the space to pursue other projects and fulfill other ambitions. I’m excited. Thank you to everyone who watched and commented, both good and bad (!). It was great… ×’.

Humphrey has been a familiar face at BT, working alongside experts such as Rio Ferdinand and Michael Owen.

It is likely that his last game with BT will be the Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan on June 10.

Prior to joining BT Sport, Humphrey covered a variety of sports for BBC Sport, including F1. He was previously a children’s TV presenter.
