Fans have claimed Jacob Murphy is “living the dream” after the Newcastle star was spotted beaming as the Champions League anthem played ahead of their clash with AC Milan.

The winger was the surprise selection in Eddie Howe’s starting XI as the Magpies made their return to Europe’s elite competition after a 20-year absence.

Murphy seemed determined to enjoy the moment and was spotted smiling as the famous Champions League anthem played at San Siro before kick-off.

Fans were quick to praise the smiling 28-year-old as he prepared to make his Champions League debut.

“I love the way Jacob Murphy smiles when the Champions League music starts. Living the dream in Newcastle,” one fan wrote.

“We’re actually watching Jacob Murphy play Champions League football and he’s completely pissed off about it. I love football,” said another.

“Jacob Murphy’s face during the UCL anthem,” added a third.

Some fans have commented on Murphy’s Champions League run with Newcastle.

Murphy joined the Magpies from Norwich in 2017, where he spent time on loan with clubs in the Championship and League One.

He had also spent time away from Newcastle on loan with West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.

“I’m baffled, the Jacob Murphy we saw at Coventry is playing in the Champs League, but tell yourself how good he is,” said one fan.

Another commented: “Still can’t get over seeing Jacob Murphy in the Champions League.”

Murphy played the first 62 minutes at San Siro, with the winger then replacing Miguel Almiron.
