American music legend Jackson Browne is canceling shows in Sydney and Melbourne this weekend due to a mysterious illness
Famed singer-songwriter Jackson Browne has canceled two major shows on his current Australian tour due to an unnamed illness.
The 74-year-old American music veteran announced he was too ill to perform just hours before his scheduled performance at Sydney’s Super Theater on Saturday.
Jackson also postponed his Melbourne show at the Margaret Court Arena, which he was scheduled to play on Sunday.
Tour organizers have informed ticket holders that the shows will be rescheduled soon.
The one-time 1970s pinup made the announcement Saturday morning, with a touching message to his fans.

“Although I’ve taken antibiotics,” he explained, “and had my voice rest for three days, it hasn’t produced the results I was hoping for.”
“Actually, I don’t really know what kind of infection I have,” he continued.
“This means I also have to postpone the rescheduled show in Melbourne. I’m really disappointed because our shows are going so well and we were all so excited to play for you.
“I’m also disappointed that I haven’t heard anything [supporting act] Lisa Stringer. I promise to come back here at the first opportunity and play these two shows.’
Known as a heartthrob in his heyday, Browne looks to be moving forward with his New Zealand shows, which he will play next week.
On Tuesday, Jackson played a sold-out gig in Perth, Western Australia.
It comes after the singer just completed a tour of both the US and Japan.
Jackson, who rose to fame as a solo artist in the 1970s with his hit album Running on Empty, was originally known as a hitmaker for other artists.

One of his classics is The Eagles’ beloved hit, Take It Easy.
Inducted into the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, Jackson wrote the classic ballad Late for the Sky.
The song was later featured in the 1976 Robert de Niro film Taxi Driver directed by Martin Scorsese.
Meanwhile, Frontier Touring, the organizers of Jackson’s current shows in Australia and New Zealand, have informed ticket holders that they will be contacted individually for current dates.
Fans who are unable to attend the rescheduled performances will be refunded.
