Jack Whitehall shocks as he awkwardly mentions former host Phillip Schofield live on This Morning after his ITV exit and affair revelation

Jack Whitehall shocked viewers when he awkwardly mentioned presenter Phillip Schofield while appearing on This Morning on Monday.

The ITV show has come under scrutiny in recent months after it emerged Phillip lied about an affair with a younger colleague.

Jack mentioned Phillip when discussing his previous appearances on the show with presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

As he tucked into a shepherd’s pie, the comedian, 35, explained that he had never been invited to try food on the show before: ‘I’ve never been given food before’

He added: “I once got a caffeinated moisturizer from Holly and Phil. And Vanessa Feltz was sitting on me on that couch.”

Jack thought the pie he ate was spicy and then said: ‘I had hot chicken at Nando’s once and my a**e was like the flag of Japan’.

Elsewhere during the interview, Jack explained that he still feels “very much in the trenches” when it comes to fatherhood.

Jack and his partner Roxy Horner welcomed their first child into the world in September and revealed they were naming their baby girl Elsie, which means ‘Promised to God’ in Hebrew.

He said: ‘I still feel like I’m very much in the trenches, we’re six weeks in and my baby daughter is amazing and it’s all so full on’

“People say there’s a honeymoon period and the first week was so wonderful, and blissful, but by the second week I was Googling boarding schools, it happened that quickly.”

It comes after Ben Shephard broke his silence on rumors he is swapping Good Morning Britain for ITV This Morning as a permanent replacement for sacked Phillip.

The TV presenter, 48, was a hit with viewers as he recently co-hosted the show from 10am to 12.30pm with Holly Willoughby.

While accompanying Susanna Reid at the ITV Pride of Britain Awards, Ben, from Essex, was quizzed about his possible permanent future on the programme.

He told The Mirror: ‘What I can tell you is I’m doing a bit more – I’m going to do a bit more, but I’m only really helping. So I still have a few days between now and Christmas.

“So I’m not exactly sure, but I’m still a very, very big part of the furniture….”

Ben’s comments come after it emerged he could be in line for the permanent gig as Phillip’s replacement.

A source told the Daily Mail: ‘Ben did really well and the bosses loved working with Holly and there was great feedback from many directions.

‘Ben is known at ITV as being very popular with the audiences of the shows he presents. He is also trusted by the public and is much loved within ITV. He has hosted so many shows for the channel.

‘He and Holly go back years too – he presented on This Morning a few years ago and they have a good relationship.’

Ben previously appeared as a stand-in presenter on This Morning, where he defeated Phillip between 2005 and 2011.

These comments come just days after the once 30-stone security guard, Gavin Plumb, 36, was accused of plotting Holly’s kidnap and murder.

It was revealed the mother-of-three will not be put back on the This Morning sofa by ITV bosses.

She has since been placed under police guard at her home with her husband, Dan Baldwin, and her children, Harry, 13, Belle, 11, and Chester, who is eight.

Initially This Morning was going to be built around Holly, 42, with rotating co-hosts, as GMB is with Susanna, but now the bosses have changed their minds and want someone they can work with most days.

Ben, who made his debut on the ITV Daytime show last month, is currently rotating alongside Richard Madeley, Ed Balls and Martin Lewis to host GMB alongside Susanna or his good friend Kate Garraway.

He stepped in more frequently when Piers Morgan first quit in 2021 and was the main presenter of GMB when it launched in 2014.

He also hosts the ITV quiz show Tipping Point, which is pre-recorded, and the Saturday game show Ninja Warrior UK.

Although he has also anchored shows such as The Krypton Factor and the ITV2 spin-off program The Xtra Factor, Ben has 23 years’ experience of presenting on breakfast television.

He joined the long-running program GMTV in 2000, where he co-presented Entertainment Today with Jenni Falconer.

Phillip Schofield, 61, resigned from ITV earlier this year and was sacked by his agency YMU after admitting he had an “ill-advised, but not illegal” affair with a younger male colleague.

The former This Morning star said the affair ‘never came across’ as an abuse of power because he and his lover were ‘mates’.

He said it started in 2017 after a “consensual moment” in his dressing room.

Shortly after he was exposed, he issued a number of apologies, including to his co-host of 14 years, Holly and his wife of 30 years, Stephanie Lowe.
