Jack Whitehall responds to Prince William after he ‘shaded’ him while telling a ‘dad joke’ during a school visit in the West Midlands

Jack Whitehall has responded to Prince William after the future king ‘scandalously upstaged’ the comedian during a surprise school visit in the West Midlands.

His Royal Highness shared Princess Charlotte’s favorite joke when he dropped by Freddie Hadley, 12, St Michael’s Church of England High School in Rowley Regis, Sandwell, after the youngster wrote him a letter last year inviting him to support their initiatives on the field of mental health care.

During the visit, the Prince of Wales joined Freddie and his classmates for a segment on the school’s radio station, where he was asked to share a ‘dad joke’.

Jack, who is father to seven-month-old daughter Elsie, with partner Roxy Horner, can be seen watching the Prince of Wales in a video and filmed his reaction and shared it on Instagram on Thursday.

Prince William said: ‘I’m trying to channel Jack Whitehall because most of his jokes are quite daddy.’

Jack can be seen beaming when the monarch said he would ‘channel’ him, but his jaw quickly dropped when Prince William described the comedian’s jokes as ‘dad-like’.

The royal then went on to dish on ‘Interrupting Cow’, saying it’s Princess Charlotte’s favorite at the moment, adding: ‘I’m hearing that a lot at home at the moment.’

In a punchline, some might have predicted it, while the others around the table tried to ask, “Cow who to interrupt?” the royal family let out an abrupt ‘boo’.

While some laughed and some groaned at the joke, William insisted it was the best joke he could think of, which was “clean” and “broadcast.”

The comedian can be seen looking shocked at the joke before hilariously picking up his notebook and pen to remember the ‘dad joke’ for himself next time.

Jack joked that he has now lost the chance of a ‘knighthood’, writing: ‘A disgraceful shadow of the future king. #DadJokes #theregoesmyknighthood’.

During the engagement, Freddie, 12, had no idea the Prince would be visiting – instead he and his fellow pupils were told to prepare for a VIP guest… The Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands.

But when he saw William get out of the car, a wide grin appeared on his face.

Freddie explained that he was very impressed with the royal family’s work on mental health issues.

The prince apologized for not being able to attend when he was first invited to World Mental Health Day, but said he hoped he had made amends.

Inside the building, William told a staff member: ‘A lot of people write letters, but Freddie’s was really well written. I promised I would come. ‘

He added: ‘I’m sorry Catherine can’t be here either. She would have liked to do that [have come].’

A segment filmed outside the school showed William and Freddie deep in conversation as the future king spoke to the schoolboy about his letter.

“So this is the young lad who started it all,” William said. ‘Very nice to see you, thank you for your letter.’

“You’re welcome,” Freddie replied. “Did you think you’d get a reaction like that?” William asked. “Yes, I did,” Freddie said.

“Oh yes, that’s trust,” William laughed. “Why did you decide to write to me?”

Freddie had posted a letter to X, formerly Twitter, on World Mental Health Day last October, telling the royal family about the brilliant work he and his friends were doing at school.

To his delight, William replied personally, writing: ‘Good afternoon Freddie, I am so sorry that Catherine and I cannot be with you and the rest of the students at St Michael’s today. ‘Tackling mental health challenges and stigma is so important, please continue this important work. W’.
