Jack Kennedy has been ruled out of Cheltenham after the 23-year-old failed to recover in time from the FIFTH broken leg of his career, as his agent predicts he will return ‘a couple of weeks’ after the Festival.

Gordon Elliott will be without his best driver, Jack Kennedy, at the Cheltenham Festival after losing his time trial to get fit for the top competition.

The 23-year-old broke his leg for the fifth time when he fell off the Top Bandit in Naas in January. She visited surgeon Paddy Kenny yesterday and although he is making good progress, he will not be attending the Festival, which starts on March 14.

His agent Kevin O’Ryan said: ‘Cheltenham will come too soon. He did his best. He really wants to get back as soon as possible, but he’ll give her all the time she needs. Hopefully it will be a couple of weeks after Cheltenham.

After Kennedy’s injury, Davy Russell came out of retirement to fill the void, but suffered a bad crash at the Dublin Racing Festival and has only raced twice since.

However, Elliott has booked him for two trips in Leopardstown tomorrow.
