Jack Grealish insists John Gregory’s claim that his
Grealish, 28, spent the 2013/14 season on loan at Notts County from Aston Villa, where he made 38 appearances and scored five goals for the League One club.
Gregory, who was in charge of Crawley Town at the time, told a podcast that he was responsible for the mind games behind Grealish being removed during a match in West Sussex in December 2013 – a claim Grealish disputed on Instagram.
Gregory told the Undr the Cosh podcast: ‘I had Jack Grealish removed once. He went on loan from Villa to Notts County… He must have been about 18 or 19 years old at the time.
‘I was sitting in the dugout and every time he came near me I said, ‘F***ing Jack Grealish. Aston Villa. F***ing bullshit. No wonder they sent you the fuck out of Notts County.” I’m right in his ear: “No wonder they don’t want you there.” Getting into him.

“They took him away and he went home and told his dad and his dad had spoken to one of my friends. He said, “Hey, what about your buddy Gregory attacking my Jack?”. So my buddy said, ‘Took it off, didn’t we?’.”
Grealish though took to the Instagram comments under Undr The Cosh’s post to dispute the claim.
Grealish wrote: ‘John Gregory – Episode 1 of Things That Never Happened… What a clown.’
Crawley Town won the match 1–0 in December 2013 thanks to a goal from Mark Connolly, with Grealish starting the match and coming off in the 66th minute. according to ESPN.
Gregory was Aston Villa manager between 1998 and 2002 and also took charge of Wycombe Wanderers, Derby County and Queens Park Rangers during his managerial career.
Grealish had been part of the Villa squad since the age of six, but was loaned out to League One Notts County for his first real taste of senior football.
After impressing at Villa, Grealish completed a £100m move to Manchester City in 2021 and has become a crucial part of Pep Guardiola’s squad over the past two years.
