YouTuber Jack Doherty is blasted over reckless driving with calls for him to lose his license after he was filmed using his cellphone moments before crashing his $300K custom McLaren

YouTuber Jack Doherty faced furious calls for his arrest after he was filmed on his mobile phone moments before crashing his $300,000 McLaren, leaving his passenger covered in blood.

The 20-year-old was streaming live on Kick and could be seen driving with one hand and looking at his phone as he drove along the highway in Miami at high speed in heavy rain.

The custom-built McLaren 570S slid across the wet roadway before crashing into the metal barrier along the road, tearing off the bonnet and destroying the entire front half of the car.

Furious social media users have now accused Doherty of “reckless driving” and violating Florida law, which bans the use of cellphones and other wireless devices while driving.

They claim Doherty should have his driver’s license revoked for life and urge Miami police to “arrest this d**n clown” for endangering others. Some even go so far as to suggest that his passenger should file a gross negligence lawsuit against Doherty.

More than 185,000 people were watching Kick’s livestream when Doherty crashed into the metal barrier on the highway.

The YouTuber managed to escape unscathed, but his friend Michael David, who was in the passenger seat, could be seen with blood streaming down his face and had to be taken to hospital.

But not before Doherty handed him the camera and said, “Michael, here. Also film on that phone.’

Footage from the livestream shows Doherty handing his camera to someone who came to help them to film him being dragged out of the car window after the crash, while repeatedly commenting on the state of his car.

Meanwhile, David is covered in blood and holding his wrist, which appears to be injured, while other people comfort him.

Doherty eventually walked to the other side of the McLaren and asked his friend if he was okay, but the content creator is now being criticized online for both his dangerous driving and his initial response to the incident.

“He was on the phone and driving and it was raining. It was more important to him that his car was damaged than that his friend was injured,” wrote an angry X user.

“His license should be suspended indefinitely. His friend should file a lawsuit against Jack Doherty for gross negligence.”

“This d*****t belongs in jail for a lot of reasons but this f*cking stupid*** FLOWED HIMSELF TEXTING AND DRIVING WHILE SPEEDING IN HEAVY RAIN as he crashed,” another bellowed.

‘Jack Doherty should have his license permanently revoked. He is a danger to everyone around him.’

Another tagged Miami police in their tweet, saying, “So…Jack Doherty is going to lose his driver’s license, right? The man on camera is driving recklessly, lost in his phone, in the rain…’

“Y’all need to arrest this d**n clown,” another user echoed in a tweet mentioning the police. ‘Jack Doherty crashed his car on the Miami Highway and filmed himself violating Florida Law. He could have killed people with his reckless driving. His driver’s license should be revoked and a driving ban imposed.’

One user added: ‘Jack Doherty should have his driver’s license revoked for life!’

Florida law prohibits the use of cell phones and other wireless devices while driving. Drivers can use their phone hands-free, but the device must not cause distraction.

Under the Wireless While Driving Act, it is illegal for drivers to text, manually type, press buttons or read data while behind the wheel. However, voice messages and voice note playback are allowed.

The wave of criticism comes after other influencers criticized Doherty for making it clear that his primary concern was the condition of his car and that his injured friend filmed the contents of the wreck.

Influencer Corinna Kopf wrote on X, formerly Twitter: ‘Your friend’s face is pouring with blood, but make sure he keeps filming from all angles…. Nice.’

Doherty, who is originally from Long Island, New York but now lives in Los Angeles, California, has 14.9 million YouTube subscribers.

He has since been banned from the streaming platform Kick for violating safety guidelines, with some believing he viewed the live chat portion of his stream while he was driving just seconds before the crash.

Doherty gained a large following, mainly of teenage boys, thanks to his pranks, stunts and challenge videos that are often filmed in public places, such as his Floor is Lava challenges at Walmart and Target.

His videos have attracted criticism as some believe his behavior is rude and disgusting, with his content largely revolving around annoying and harassing people in public.

He has recently been criticized for allegedly antagonizing people to make the content appealing, before running behind his guards to prevent the people he provoked from touching him.

Some videos show Doherty taking on random strangers and calling in his guard once the person looks like he’s about to take revenge.

He stands behind the security guard, who is much taller than him, and makes fun of the person by making comments like ‘what are you going to do?’.

Earlier this year, Doherty and his bodyguard, Kane Kongg, were served with legal papers and are being sued by a man who claimed he was beaten by Kongg – whose legal name is Justin Goslee.

But his loyal followers find his actions hilarious and entertaining, and fiercely defend and encourage his actions in comment sections and live chats.

The car crash comes 10 months after Doherty flipped a golf cart while his girlfriend was in the passenger seat and posted the footage to his YouTube channel.
