Australian UFC standout fighter Jack Della Maddalena has opened up about his brutal plans for American Randy Brown at UFC 284 in Perth on Sunday in a clash that takes place just 15 minutes from his home.

The 26-year-old welterweight, who was named UFC Rookie of the Year in 2022, is one of the most exciting prospects in the world, having won all of his UFC bouts by first-round knockout.

‘Della’ says she’ll try to do the exact same thing with Brown in Perth, so fight fans should expect fireworks.

“I’m going to go after him from the beginning,” Della revealed. “I’m going to try to get him out of there in the first round, and if not, it will be in the second.”

The former rugby player’s incredible rise in the sport drew a huge following of fans and earned him $145,000 in Dana White fight bonuses.

However, Maddalena says the most extravagant thing she has bought with the proceeds is an electric scooter, which she now uses almost every day.

β€œIt was the first thing I bought when I received the bonus,” says Maddalena. “I go to the gym in it, it’s nice.”

Unlike some fighters who travel abroad to seek out the world’s biggest name gyms, Maddalena has remained loyal to Scrappy MMA & Fitness in Perth.

Maddalena’s brother, Josh, is one of the gym’s trainers and one of the main reasons the rising star is where he is.

“I train with him every day,” Maddalena said. He is two years older than me. He loves that I have become what I have. I used to watch his fights and admire him.

“He is a huge reason for me to be where I am and I don’t think I would be here if I didn’t have him.” He will be in my corner for this fight, and so will my other trainers.

Another big influence in Western Australia, although he doesn’t know it, is Brazilian UFC and PRIDE legend Wanderlei Silva, who was known for his win-at-all-cost fighting style.

Maddalena discovered a highlight video for ‘The Ax Murderer’ when she was 13 and was immediately impressed.

‘I’ve always liked different fighting styles. But the first one I saw was Wanderlei Silva and it stuck with me,” Maddalena explained.

β€œI think his style got me hooked on the sport. But in the future I have also been interested in more defensive fighters. It’s certainly a big part of my current style.

Rather than slowly build her career, Maddalena prefers to fight as often as she can, but lately she finds it very difficult to find a willing dance partner.

No one seems to want to fight the Australian, so he’s excited to have an opponent for UFC 284.

‘I’m aiming to catch it [Brown] from there in the first round,’ explained Maddalena. “After that, my goal for 2023 is to fight three or four more times in 2023 and be in the top ten at welterweight by the end of the year.”

‘It’s going to be an amazing day. And I’m so glad it’s in Perth, it’s only a 15-minute drive from my house.
