Jacinta Price says ABC Laura Tingle Patricia Karvelas biased in support of Voice

Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, senator for the Indigenous coalition, has again accused the ABC of biased support for an Indigenous vote in parliament.

Ms. Price, Australias Shadow Indigenous Minister, is a leading figure in the movement opposing the Voice.

The NT senator said ABC lacked “balance” after it emerged that three of its most prominent presenters had given promotional quotes for a book in support of The Voice.

Quotes from 7.30’s Laura Tingle, Radio National presenter Patricia Karvelas and ABC Canberra’s Dan Bourchier appear on the cover of Thomas Mayo’s Finding the Heart of the Nation book.

“As a government-funded broadcaster, the ABC must keep its people in line and provide balanced coverage,” Senator Price said.

Tingle called the Uluru Declaration – which has led to the upcoming vote referendum – a “truly transformational gift…if only we adopt it.”

Karvelas said the book was “a profound piece of work that asks us to think about a future where First Nations people … are placed at the heart of our country.”

Bourchier said the vote was “a powerful reminder of the Elders’ gift and a call to action for all Australians.”

But Ms Price said: ‘The Uluru Declaration is a document signed by only 250 people at an invitation-only event that does not represent all Indigenous Australians.

“They are exploiting Uluru and culture to cram their own political agenda into our country’s rule book and founding document,” she told the newspaper. Daily telegram.

Earlier this year, ABC employees received training to ensure that their personal opinions did not cause their coverage of The Voice to be biased in any way.

But Karvelas has been roundly criticized several times by Ms. Price and other detractors, most notably for an interview she did with Indigenous leader Noel Pearson, where he called Peter Dutton’s opposition to the Voice a “Judaic betrayal.”

In another ABC interview last November, Mr Pearson said Ms Price is embroiled in a “tragic vortex of redneck celebrities” with right-wing views and think tanks.

“Jacinta is a very compelling figure, but she is trapped in a vortex,” he said.

“She’s trapped in a vortex that reminds me of Pauline Hanson 26 years ago… And it’s a celebrity vortex.”

An ABC spokesperson said the promotional quotes for Finding the Heart of the Nation “were given as reviews of the book itself. No ABC policy has been violated.”

Karvelas also previously provided a quote for the autobiography of In Black and White, Indigenous ex-Liberal candidate Warren Mundine.

Mr Mundine is now one of the prominent campaigners against The Voice.
