Ja Morant’s friend and award-winning rapper Moneybagg Yo reveals he has spoken to NBA star

‘It’s just a phase’: Ja Morant’s friend and award-winning rapper Moneybagg Yo reveals he spoke to NBA star amid latest gun controversy – and Grizzlies star told him ‘I’ll do it right’

Multi-award-winning rapper MoneyBagg Yo addressed the ongoing Ja Morant situation during an interview with Ja Morant Complexrevealing that he has spoken to the young NBA star.

Morant has been suspended by the Memphis Grizzlies and awaits punishment from the NBA after he was seen wielding a firearm in a live video posted to Instagram, despite the league’s CBA not providing specific guidance on the matter.

However, the Memphis-born rapper said at the start of his own rise to stardom that he had made similar mistakes, while also mentioning that he had talked to Morant about the current situation.

“Unfortunately, the situation is going on now… He’s 23, I feel like it’s just a phase,” Moneybagg said during the interview.

“Like, when I was 23… It was like I was just doing things and people had to tell me, or I had to bump my head. So I’m thankful that I got out of those situations. Some people don’t even shy away from certain situations, you can feel me.’

Despite a career that saw him win awards such as 2021 Trapper of the Year and the Complex Best Rapper of the Decade award, Moneyybagg admitted that he made similar decisions early in his rise to fame, on top of being nominated for a Grammy.

“I liked my homeboy, I still gravitate towards the traps. But I’ve gone platinum and I’ve done this show, I’ve been with this person. I would have been on interviews with you and stuff, I still go back to Memphis and I’m trapped.

“I’m sitting around, I’m pulling the block, smoking, chilling and he’s like ‘brother, what are you doing?’ I had home boy like “bro what you got wrong?”‘

He would go on to say, “Yeah, I get it, and of course I gave him words of encouragement. He was like, “I appreciate that big brother, I got you. I’m going to do well.”‘

Moneybagg isn’t the only well-known rapper to comment on Morant and his situation, as Grammy Award winner Lil Wayne also recently spoke about the Grizzlies guard.

Legendary rapper Lil Wayne recently commented on the ongoing Ja Morant saga, saying to many of those who criticized him, “You guys know that kid? Because I do not’

‘Do you know that boy? Because I don’t,” Wayne said emphatically. “I know him from dunking and jumping, and I didn’t get to know him until I started watching him in his senior year of college.

“He comes from a town of 3,000 people. As? What do you all expect? You gave him $200 million. I just said, a city of 3,000 people. Do you expect him to be responsible? Now we’re tripping.’

‘That’s magic. ‘Cause I could tell you right now, I come from a really well-behaved, beautiful mother, nice, you know what I mean?

My mom would bust her ass to make sure everything around me was nice, and I was still a dork. I shot myself. And that young man, I imagine I came from a goddamn place with 3,000 people and I became who I am.’
