JJ Watt joked on Wednesday that a return to the NFL was on the horizon after seeing the eye-watering contract details of Nick Bosa’s latest renewal.

Bosa, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, signed a new five-year, $170 million deal with the 49ers, making the 25-year-old the highest-paid defensive player in the sport of all time.

And while Watt, who retired after last season, was amply compensated in his stellar twelve-year career, even he was blown away by the numbers offered to Bosa.

“Just getting the chance to sit down and watch the breakdown of Bosa’s new (very well deserved) contract,” Watt wrote on Twitter.

“I’ve got some more work to do, but I’m starting to feel comfortable saying I’d consider retiring if I got a similar contract. Maybe.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year then added: “Not enough people get the joke here and it’s concerning…”

Bosa is guaranteed to earn $122.5 million over the course of the deal, according to ESPN, and will once again be tasked with leading the 49ers’ formidable defense.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year last year scored 18.5 sacks and 19 tackles for a loss.

Watt, meanwhile, played for the Texans and briefly for the Cardinals, and ranks 24th on the all-time sack list despite several seasons being cut short due to injury.

Watt has kept busy in his retirement, investing in Burnley with his wife Kealia

The 34-year-old earned $129.7 million in his career, according to Spotrac, but kept busy even after his retirement.

The ex-defensive player and his wife Kealia invested in Burnley last May ahead of the club’s return to the Premier League.

The couple were seen at Turf Moor last month for Burnley’s season opener vs. Manchester City.

Watt also announced in June that he will participate in CBS’ NFL coverage this season.
