Ivanka Trump responded to Donald Trump’s historic denunciation on Friday by saying, “I love my dad,” and that she felt pain for both him and the country.
“I love my father and I love my country. Today I am pained for both,” she wrote in a post that appeared in her Instagram stories.
“I appreciate the voices from across the political spectrum expressing their support and concern,” she added.
A grand jury in Manhattan indicted the former president on Thursday over a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. The exact charges have not yet been released, but reports indicate that there are more than 30 counts.
Trump, 76, will be arraigned in Manhattan on Tuesday at 2:15 p.m. He has denied any allegation.
Republicans expressed support for the former president, echoing his argument that he is a victim of a politicized justice system.
Trump has argued that the investigations into his dealings are politically motivated by Democrats seeking to bar him from another White House term.
However, Democrats have said – in response to the indictment – that no one is above the law and that Donald Trump should be treated like any other defendant.
President Joe Biden has declined to comment on the matter.
Ivanka and her father seemed to have a strained relationship since he left the White House.
The two were close there – she served as an adviser in his administration and Trump was clear in his admiration for her and her skills.

But during the congressional hearings on the January 6 uprising, Ivanka Trump revealed that she did not believe her father’s claim that the 2020 election was stolen from him.
And aides revealed that Ivanka Trump had tried to get her father to act that day — to recall his supporters as they flooded the Capitol. She also expressed her support for then-Vice President Mike Pence, who resisted pressure from President Trump to return the 2020 election results to the states.
Ivanka Trump declined to run for her father’s 2024 presidential campaign and was absent from his announcement that he would seek another term.
“This time I choose to prioritize my young children and the private life we create as a family,” she said in a statement hours after his announcement.
“I don’t intend to go into politics. While I will always love and support my father, in the future I will do so outside the political arena.”

Reportedly, she does not talk to her father.
“Even though Ivanka loves her dad, she knows how impossible he can be,” a source said People magazine.
“Donald is doing what he wants, and she can’t help him right now,” the source said. His help is in the hands of his lawyers and advisers. She no longer works in that capacity.’
