Ivanka briefly opens up for the first time about father Donald Trump’s legal battles – and tears up talking about ‘impossibly glamorous’ late mother Ivana
Ivanka Trump has spoken candidly about her father’s lawsuits for the first time during a podcast episode, including shedding a tear as she spoke about her “impossibly glamorous” late mother Ivana.
During an on-camera interview with Lex Fridman, the 42-year-old spoke about Donald Trump’s long string of legal complications.
“On a human level, it’s my dad and I love him very much, so it’s painful to experience, but ultimately I wish it didn’t have to be this way,” Ivanka revealed.
Donald Trump is being charged in connection with Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into election interference and the January 6 attack on the US Capitol. He is also accused of mishandling classified documents in Florida.
Separately, Trump, 78, is charged with election interference in Georgia. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Later in the podcast, Ivanka also became visibly emotional when asked about her mother, who passed away in July 2022 at the age of 73.
When asked if she missed her, Ivanka said, “So much. It’s unbelievable how devastating the loss of a parent is.
‘And her mother still lives with me, my grandmother who raised us, so that’s very special.
Pausing to hold back tears, she added, “And I can ask her some questions that I would ask myself… Sorry. I wanted to ask my own mother, but it’s hard.”
Ivana Trump was an Olympic skier and model who was married to Donald Trump from 1977 to 1990. Her daughter described her as “a remarkable, remarkable woman.”
“She was a pioneer in so many ways: as an athlete and growing up in communist Czechoslovakia, as a fashion mogul, as a real estate executive and as a builder,” Ivanka said.
“Just this all-round groundbreaking businesswoman. I also learned from her, apart from that element, how to really enjoy life. I look back and some of my happiest memories of her are in the oceanjust lying on your back, looking up at the sun and just living or dancing in the moment.
“She loved to dance, so she really taught me a lot about how to live life to the fullest. And she had so much courage, so much conviction, so much energy and a complete sense of comfort with who she was.”

“I have these memories in my head of seeing her in action in different capacities, often in the context of things I would later do myself,” Ivanka added.
‘So I would go to the Plaza Hotel almost every day after school and follow her around as she walked through the halls and just observe her.
“And she was so impossibly glamorous. She did everything in five-inch heels, with this bouffant. It’s almost an inaccessible visual.”
Ivanka served as a senior adviser in Trump’s administration from 2017 to 2021, but she said she is stepping back from politics and has not been closely involved in his second bid for the White House.
She and her half-sister Tiffany recently celebrated their father’s 78th birthday by sharing a series of sweet photos on Instagram.
Trump’s eldest daughter is absent from her father’s 2024 campaign, having first publicly indicated that this would be the case when Donald Trump announced in 2022 that he would run for the White House for a third time.
She said at the time: “I love my father very much. This time, I am choosing to prioritize my young children and the private life we create as a family,” the former White House adviser said. “While I will always love and support my father, I will do so outside of the political arena in the future.”
Friedman asked Trump to elaborate on her statement, now that Donald has re-clinched the Republican nomination and may be the favorite to win in November.
“It was a decision that came out of my parenting, where I really thought about what they need from me now. Politics is a tough business and I don’t think you should get involved in it. I think you either have to go all in or get out.”
Ivanka referred to “the price” her children would pay if she went all-in on the campaign, adding: “I’m not willing to let them pay that price.”
“As their mother, I feel very strongly about doing what’s right for them. I think there are many ways to serve, the enormity, the scale of what can be accomplished in public service, but I think there’s something equally valuable about serving in your own community.”
