Ivan Toney set to return to Brentford training after four-month absence NEXT WEEK as restrictions on his eight-month betting ban ease

  • Ivan Toney should resume training for Brentford next week as his suspension rules relax
  • He was given an eight-month ban for betting violations and has been training alone
  • Despite his return to training, the striker will not be able to play until January

Ivan Toney will resume training with his Brentford teammates next week, with the restrictions of his eight-month betting ban easing on Sunday.

Striker Toney suffered from a hamstring problem before he was suspended in May, which means he may have to return to training after the injury and his long absence.

Brentford medics will assess Toney’s recovery upon his return to the club to determine exactly when he will be given the green light to return to work with the rest of Thomas Frank’s squad.

Once he does, Toney is expected to play a full role in the sessions until his suspension ends and he is cleared to play again in January.

Toney was handed the tough ban and £50,000 fine after accepting 232 breaches of the FA’s betting rules.

As part of the punishment he was unable to train with his club for the first half of the suspension, but he has been working hard away from Brentford and was recently photographed training alone ahead of a key step on his comeback journey.
