Ivan Toney has spoken out about his eight-month ban from football and his relationship with Brentford manager Thomas Frank.

Toney was handed a long-term suspension from the match by the FA in May after admitting a number of gambling offenses over several years.

The 27-year-old attended the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday, conducting one of his first interviews since the ban was issued earlier this year.

Toney told Sky Sports about his relationship with Frank: He brings us strength and love. When a player plays for someone, they want to be loved.

“Thomas Frank does that with all the players – whether you start, on the bench, just in the squad – he makes all his players feel special.

That’s the quality he has. He is one of the best managers I have played under. He knows that I will give my heart for him and risk my body for him.

“I am a grown man, I take it on the chin (the ban) and move forward. I know I’ll come back better than before.’

The British Grand Prix at Silverstone is one of the biggest events in the country’s racing calendar and attracts a number of familiar faces, including Toney.

Earlier in the week, the striker was photographed on holiday in Ibiza.

He is expected back on the football pitch in January, with a game against Tottenham, his first Premier League match in a Bees shirt.

The 27-year-old is even exempt from training with his Brentford teammates until September 17.

Toney previously expressed his frustration that news of the allegations had leaked ahead of the World Cup, leading to the striker being left out of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the prestigious tournament.

He explained that missing the trip to Qatar was a “greater punishment” than the eight-month suspension handed out by the FA.

Toney was found to have broken 232 gambling rules, with an independent disciplinary committee imposing an eight-month suspension and a £50,000 fine. He was also diagnosed as a compulsive gambler.
