ITV announces shake-up with big change for Good Morning Britain for the King’s coronation

ITV has announced a big shake-up with a change for Good Morning Britain.

On Thursday’s show, Charlotte Hawkins revealed that there will be a special edition for the King’s coronation, which takes place on Saturday, May 6.

Kate Garraway and Adil Ray said they are “so excited” for the show to cover the historic event, but details are still vague on when the special episode will air.

The announcement was made as Charlotte said a new poll suggests 3/4 of people in Scotland don’t care about the king’s coronation.

But the presenter said: ‘We here at Good Morning Britain are excited about the King’s coronation. I can confirm that we have a special Saturday episode for the King’s coronation.

“We’ll be out and about capturing all the excitement. The whole run-up to this historic event.’

Kate replied, ‘We will! It will be so exciting. It will be a wonderful event.

“We’re lucky to be a part of it and then I’m going to a street party so I can see it from angles, which will be great.”

Temperatures could reach 19°C over the weekend of May’s bank holiday, the Met Office said.

The weekend will be warm with some sunshine – as forecasters say the coronation of King Charles will be happy and glorious for many, with fine and dry conditions.

Meanwhile, the BBC will broadcast unseen footage of King Charles in a special new documentary.

The broadcaster has revealed more details about the upcoming 60-minute film ‘Charles R: The Making of a Monarch’, which will also feature rarely seen footage recounting the king’s journey to the throne spanning more than 70 years.

The images show the royal family’s personal moments, including a bonfire in Sandringham, ‘Prince Charles flying solo and Prince Charles on a private visit to Malta in 1968’.

Other unseen clips include his many royal engagements as a prince and other intimate family moments, such as Charles taking a hovercraft ride with his mother, Queen Elizabeth, and other members of the royal family.

There will also be footage from the family’s private home movie collection, which showcases his “early love of nature, gardening and animals.”

The program is told ‘in His Majesty’s own words, as recorded over the decades’.

Charles R: The Making of a Monarch will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on April 30.
