Two sisters who paid hundreds of dollars to stay at a luxury resort in the Whitsundays have left a scathing review after claiming they saw mold in the breakfast buffet and that staff were 'rude'.

The pair shared a TikTok video on Wednesday showing the fruit available at the breakfast buffet at the Daydream Island Resort & Living Reef in Queensland's Whitsundays region.

“Look at the jig at the buffet on Daydream Island,” the pair said.

'Never stay here, it's so run down and the staff are so rude.'

The sisters shared another video on Thursday claiming they saw staff pouring the coffee overflow container back into the pot.

The pair claimed they didn't see any staff at the buffet for hours, but many commenters said this was completely normal

In a third clip, the duo claimed the food had not changed once in the three hours they spent at the breakfast buffet with no staff around.

'Never stay on Daydream Island. Share this video with everyone you know so they don't make the same mistake I did!' they captioned one video.

Many commentators claimed that the resort, which was bought by China Capital Investment Group in 2015, was better years ago.

“So not really a daydream?” someone said.

“That watermelon is literally rotting,” another said of the fruit.

“We called it a nightmare island after our stay,” a third wrote.

'Daydream Island in the 90s was the best! Such a shame it went downhill,” said one.

“Daydream and Hamilton Island were good maybe 20 years ago. Now they're both ridiculously expensive junk,” said another.

But others said they had never encountered any problems at the resort and accused the sisters of creating drama.

“Daydream Island is not the problem,” said one.

They also claimed that they saw the staff putting the spilled coffee back into the pot

“Obviously there's nothing better to do than take footage and create a bad name for a place that is beautiful,” wrote another.

Fellow social media users also pointed out that it is perfectly safe to leave food out as long as it does not last longer than four hours.

“It's all on warmers, get on with your life,” one person commented.

'That's how buffets work, it's self-service and the food is all kept warm. You shouldn't go out much,” said another.

“Your vacation seems so boring,” someone commented.
