It’s a Barbie world! Keen fans queue from 3am in Leicester Square ahead of UK premiere

Hundreds of fans have been lining up since 3am to see the stars of the live-action Barbie movie when they arrive for the UK premiere in central London later today.

Margot Robbie, 33, and Ryan Gosling, 42, are among the big Hollywood names to walk the pink carpet outside Cineworld in Leicester Square this afternoon.

Their legions of fans have been waiting since the early hours of this morning for wristbands to fill pens with outside the state-of-the-art cinema.

However, they have a long wait as access to the lofts doesn’t open until 5pm, while the cast, including America Ferrera, 39, Issa Rae, 38, and Simu Liu, 34, don’t arrive until 5:45pm.

One fan warned on Twitter: “If you’re planning on heading to Leicester Square for a Barbie premiere wristband, good luck as I’ve never seen such a long queue on a premiere day.”

The line winds back a few blocks from the movie theater, and many are seen dressing up as Barbie or Ken while wearing cowboy hats and blonde wigs.

Another Twitter user said: “I’ve worked in an office near Leicester Square for over a decade and the queue for Barbie’s red carpet tonight is probably the longest premiere line I’ve ever seen.”

While full reviews for the highly anticipated film have yet to be released, response on Twitter following US premieres has been mostly positive.

katcy stephan, Variety‘s social media editor, was one of the first to post a reaction to the movie on social media, declaring it to be nothing short of “perfection.”

#Barbie is perfection. Greta Gerwig delivers a nuanced commentary on what it means to be a woman in a whimsical, wonderful and hilariously funny romp,” Stephan begins.

“The whole cast shines, especially Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in roles they were clearly born to play,” she adds.

ScreenRant’s Joseph Deckelmeier tweeted, “Barbie caught me off guard and I mean that in the best way possible.

“It’s funny, bombastic and very clever. Greta Gerwig takes aim for the fences and hits a home run. Margot Robbie’s performance is great and Ryan Gosling and Simu Liu are pure entertainment! The whole cast is brilliant!’

Fans lining up in London today are eager to see the leading cast members’ outfits.

It comes after Margot Robbie wowed audiences at the Los Angeles premiere on Sunday when she stepped onto the pink carpet wearing four diamond necklaces.

The stacked stones that elevate the vintage Barbie look of the 1960s Hollywood star are worth an eye-watering $1.5 million, according to leading diamond experts.

Maxwell Stone of UK retailer Steven Stone revealed that the diamonds come in a range of cuts with carat weights estimated at over AUD a million.

“The necklaces are custom made by Lorraine Schwartz and feature a range of different diamond shapes, with the top two pieces formed from pure round cut diamonds, the most popular diamond shape,” he said.

“Most interesting is the lower necklace, which consists of halo-cut diamonds in an assortment of cuts – including emerald, heart, pear, marquise and oval.”

Maxwell went on to say that he would “estimate the chains to be worth about $1 million USD in total.”

After donning pink the previous several premieres, two-time Oscar nominee Margot opted for not-so-basic black to dazzle the star-studded world premiere at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in downtown Los Angeles.

The Aussie actor teamed up with stylist Andrew Mukamal to create the Schiaparelli Haute Couture dress for trumpet, matching open-toed Manolo Blahnik cat heels and opera gloves from the original 1960 Barbie doll ‘Solo in the Spotlight’.

She even rocked the same metallic sheen, stiff tulle hemline, and red rose embellishment on the frilly dress.

Hairstylist Bryce Scarlett styled Margot’s voluminous fake ponytail for the pink carpet ceremony, using tools from Tangle Teezer and products from Redken to achieve the perfect 1960s-style hairdo.

Make-up artist Pati Dubroff threw the blue eyeshadow on the doll and instead brought out Robbie’s eyebrows, applied pink blush to her cheekbones and a bright red pout.
