Full spoilers ahead immediately The rings of power season 2 episode 7.

Robert Aramayo has defended the controversial scene surrounding Elrond and Galadriel The rings of power the seventh episode of season 2.

Speaking to me at the Season 2 “Path to the Finale” press conference on September 25, Aramayo admitted that the sequence was deliberately intended to be provocative. However, The rings of power actor, who plays Elrond in the hit Amazon prequel show, suggested his character had plenty of reasons to behave the way he did.

In the scene in question, which takes place in Episode 7 of Season 2 – or, as it’s known by its official title, ‘Doomed To Die’ – Elrond kisses a chained Galadriel, with the latter held captive by Adar and his orc army . . Unsurprisingly, this moment has proven highly controversial The rings of power fans had a lot to say about Elron and Galadriel’s kiss since the episode aired yesterday (September 26). Reactions ranged from genuine surprise to outright anger, with a number of viewers claiming that since Elrond ends up marrying Galadriel’s daughter in the source material, this is not only incredibly awkward, but sacrilege.

However, since Elrond uses the kiss as a tactical trick – he gives Galadriel a sigil pin during the hug so she can free herself from handcuffs and chains later in the episode – some parts of The Lord of the Rings‘ worldwide fanbase can see the reason behind his decision. And, as Aramayo confirmed during our chat, the kiss is nothing more than a diversionary tactic to help his old friend in her hour of need during the latest chapter of the Prime Video show.

“That’s definitely his motivation,” Aramayo said when I asked him for his interpretation of the situation. “It’s also a very tense moment because Elrond thinks this is the last time he’ll ever see her, so it’s emotional too. But the intention behind it is exactly that: the controversy. It’s the last thing you would ever see from him to expect.” at that moment and if you are in a dangerous situation, surrounded by your enemies, doing something so shocking will disarm them.

“It was also fun to talk about (with Galadriel actor Morfydd Clark and showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay). They (Payne and McKay) have some very interesting things to say about how elves express love in this world. We had some really fascinating conversations about that, so it was a really interesting thing to do that day.”

Benjamin Walker, who plays High King Gil-galad and whom I interviewed along with Aramayo, added: “It’s also a life-and-death situation for Elrond. It’s a Hail Mary. But you know, it’s also an imposition on our viewership, in being human, that we impose our interpretation of what a kiss means on another species, even if it’s a fictional and immortal one. What would a kiss mean to them? I think that’s a very interesting way to look at it.

Absolutely right, Mr. Walker. I’m bringing you lots more exclusive coverage surrounding the Season 2 finale of one of the best Prime Video shows, airing on Thursday, October 3. So be sure to come back to Ny Breaking for lots more insight into the series. ‘ shape.
