It doesn’t feel like the holidays without Aunt Donna’s Christmas pudding

Australian comedy troupe Aunt Donna has produced a ton of great videos and even a six-episode Netflix series since its founding in 2011, but for my money, it doesn’t get any better than their celebration of Christmas puddingor as it is popularly known, Christmas pudding. In “Always Room for Christmas Pud,” the trio goad each other through the ordeal with an exaggerated version of the sarcasm we often use with loved ones around the holidays. It is both completely realistic and completely surreal.

My fellow Americans will probably notice that what they’re eating is definitely not pudding, or at least as we know it. Pudding in Britain and former British colonies such as Australia is more of a baked pastry with fruity bits similar to fruitcake, while the tasteless stuff we call pudding is usually known as custard. Aunt Donna is not only hilarious, but they are also educational.

I was first introduced to both Aunt Donna and “Always Room for Christmas Pud” years ago by Luke Plunkett, my former Kotaku colleague and well-known Australian. Since then, I can’t go a day between Thanksgiving and New Year’s without watching the video at least once. It’s almost as if Luke has cursed me. I’m afraid to see what happens if I don’t watch ‘Always Room for Christmas Pud’ for even one day. Maybe by writing about it here I’m spreading the memetic infection to everyone who reads this blog as in The ring. Am I finally free?

Anyway, it’s funny enough not to get annoying on repeat viewings, and my family hates me just for constantly inserting lines from the video into everyday conversations. Check it out and maybe share it with a friend too…just to be sure.
