Isuzu recall: Almost 150,000 D-MAX utes and MU-X SUVs urgently recalled in Australia over fears issue could cause death

Nearly 150,000 Isuzu vehicles have been recalled due to software issues that can cause engines to stall, potentially causing serious injury or death.

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications on Wednesday recalled 149,049 Isuzu D-MAX pickups and MU-X SUVs.

Problems with the vehicle’s software could cause the engine to slow down or stall unexpectedly, the department warned.

“A software issue may cause the Engine Control Module (ECM) to incorrectly reduce engine speed. If this occurs, the engine may stall, resulting in a loss of drive,” the report said.

‘If power is lost while driving, it could increase the risk of an accident in which vehicle occupants and other road users are injured or killed.’

All D-MAX pick-ups and MU-X SUVs produced between 2020 and 2024 must be approved and their software updated.

Affected customers will be notified in writing by Isuzu to make an appointment at the nearest dealer to have the software problem inspected and resolved.

The updates are free.
