- The Israeli military says Mohsen Abu Zina was killed in an airstrike
Israel claimed yesterday that it had so far destroyed 130 tunnels under the Gaza Strip, amid warnings that Hamas leaders were ‘dead men’.
As Israeli forces pushed deeper into the terror group’s stronghold of Gaza City, leaders claimed this week that another senior Hamas figure had been killed in a beam attack.
It followed bullish claims on Tuesday that it was just closing in on the group’s leader in Gaza, once described as the “Bin Laden of Hamas”, whose bunker had reportedly been cut off.
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said Israel is “tightening the noose around the city,” although he did not specify where they believe Yahya Sinwar is hiding.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) later announced that a major weapons developer, Mohsen Abu Zina, had been eliminated by a targeted airstrike on Hamas’ “production headquarters.”

An Israeli military spokesman said: ‘The directive is decided to kill or capture all leaders of Hamas; those who planned, facilitated and carried out the murderous massacre of October 7 in Israel.
“They are all dead men walking around and it is only a matter of time in Gaza and outside Gaza until these Hamas leaders will be captured or killed by Israel.”
But it is the labyrinthine network of tunnels winding under Palestinian territory – known as the ‘Gaza Metro’ – that is widely regarded as the terror group’s main line of defense against advancing Israeli forces.
Videos posted on social media by the IDF yesterday claim that tunnel shafts are being located, uncovered by digging equipment and blown up by Israeli soldiers. IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said 130 tunnels had been destroyed.
He claimed that water and oxygen supplies had been uncovered, showing that Hamas was preparing for “a prolonged stay in the tunnels.”

They are believed to have established their headquarters beneath al-Shifa Hospital. The IDF claimed that a battalion separately made its “last stand” at another hospital, the Indonesian Hospital, underscoring the terrorists’ disregard for civilian lives.
A Hamas squad hiding in a mosque was also killed by airstrikes as they fled into the tunnel network, and a weapons cache was seized by the IDF after they raided a school used by Hamas as a base for rocket fire.
Hamas’ health ministry claims 10,500 people have been killed in Gaza, including more than 4,300 children. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said yesterday that the figure shows there is “clearly wrong” with Israel’s methods.
