Isla Fisher reveals the one Australian habit she had to give up if she wanted to make it big in Hollywood

Isla Fisher is one of Australia's most successful acting exports, but the red-haired beauty revealed she had to give up one big habit to make it big in Hollywood.

A true blue Aussie down to her roots, the Great Gatsby star, 47, said she grew up with “a nasty gutter tone” that helped her fit in at home.

But since making it big in the US, the movie star, who is married to comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, said she had to stop swearing, reported Confidential on Sunday.

“I'm working on my curse,” the Wedding Crashers star told the publication, adding that this behavior is “disapproved of in Hollywood.”

“It doesn't have the seriousness that you get in Australia where, a bit in macho circles, you can be taken seriously with a bit of swearing, or at least around my brothers when I was younger.”

Isla went on to say that she had successfully given up swearing until she started playing her character Mary in Wolf Like Me, which is now filming season 2 in South Australia.

“My character Mary curses all the time – I have so much dialogue and basically I just cursed all day, every day. That's my excuse and I stand by it – that's why I have a nasty gutter tone.'

Isla and Sacha originally lived between Los Angeles and Great Britain with their three young children, until they decided to move to Sydney in 2020.

While it was widely speculated that they moved Down Under to escape the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the US, reports claimed that they were actually fleeing America's tumultuous political climate.

“They didn't want to raise their children in Trump's America,” an insider said Sydney Morning Herald at the time.

Isla and Sacha first met at a party in Sydney in 2002 and married eight years later.

Since then, Isla has reflected on the fact that the couple has maintained a happy relationship for twenty years – a rarity in the world of show business.

'It's a fun ride. I feel so lucky to have Sacha in my life. Now we have a beautiful family and we survived the lockdown together, you know, it's not easy for any couple,” she said.

“I think it's probably 200 years by Hollywood standards!” she joked.

“I feel like it's a golden anniversary or something. Everyone congratulated me.'
