Isabella Falls, Edmonton: Teenage boy is fighting for life after slipping down a waterfall in Cairns

A teenage boy is in a critical condition in hospital after falling from a waterfall near Cairns.

Paramedics rushed to Isabella Falls in Edmonton around 11:52 a.m. Thursday after receiving a 911 call about the teen.

It is understood the teenager suffered serious head and chest injuries in the fall.

He was taken from the area by a rescue helicopter before being taken to Cairns Hospital for treatment.

The boy had been visiting the popular swimming location with friends and allegedly slipped.

Isabella Falls is infamous for its slippery rocks that are known to cause casualties.

A 19-year-old woman died after falling at the waterfall in 2022.

Local residents have called on authorities to close public access to Isabella Falls following the deaths.

“We just heard the sirens and then suddenly we were here,” one resident told the Cairns Post.

'The last one was twelve months ago, some young people slipped on the rocks.

'The municipality put up a sign there after the last one stating that this area is not cared for by the municipality. You go at your own risk, people have died here.”
