Shakhtar Donetsk’s Danylo Sikan turned red after one of the worst ever misses in Celtic’s Champions League draw.

The 21-year-old attacker had the chance to roll the ball into an empty net in the 72nd minute on Tuesday evening.

But Sikan somehow managed to miss the mark from point blank range with the score 1-1 deep into the second half at Celtic Park.

Star man Mykhaylo Mudryk made sure to drag Joe Hart out and square in front of his teammate, who failed to adjust his body and bounced the ball off his left foot and spun wide off the post in front of the incredulous home fans.

It was an embarrassing miss that could be decisive as Shakhtar is third in their group, three points from RB Leipzig with one game left.

Giorgos Giakoumakis gave the hosts the lead at half-time, but a brilliant finish from exciting young talent Mykhailo Mudryk gave the visitors a point and left Celtic at 10 Champions League home games without a win, a run going back nine years.

The result left Celtic bottom of Group F ahead of their final game against Real Madrid in Spain next week and blocked their escape route to the Europa League.

The Scottish champions didn’t quite create the quality of chances they had in previous group matches, but Kyogo Furuhashi missed an excellent opportunity to put them back into the lead. However, the visitors then produced a strong contender for the miss of the season.

Celtic’s tally of one point and two goals from their first four games was a meager reward for their attacking ambition and Ange Postecoglou was even bolder in his approach for their last home game of the competition this season.
