Is this the most secure hard drive platform around today?
>
Data security technology company ClevX has released a self-encrypting disk platform that protects almost any hard drive (HDD (opens in new tab)) or solid-state drive (SSD), both internal and external, in a super-secure, encrypted drive.
ClevX DataLock BT Secure (opens in new tab) consists of a small chip, a Bluetooth antenna and specific software. All it takes to get started is a modern smartphone and a few extra minutes.
Drives must use compatible controllers and firmware, but since ClevX works with all major SSD controller developers, that shouldn’t be an issue.
Protect data in geolocations
Once installed on the drive, the chip encrypts data using the AES-256 algorithm and comes with a unique PIN that unlocks the data, which users can obtain via ClevX’s smartphone app. Alternatively, a keyboard can also be connected to external drives.
One of the standout features of the platform is the ability to unlock the drive only in specific geographic locations. However, the flexibility of the platform is perhaps more of a draw.
Devices such as printers, which often store a mountain of sensitive data, are also compatible with the platform. The installation, ClevX claims, will not affect the endpoints (opens in new tab)form factors.
Finally, the platform is OS independent, so users of MacOS, Windows, Linux and other platforms can all take advantage of DataLock BT Secured.
Data security has become significantly more important in recent years, and with criminals stealing terabytes upon terabytes of data, legislators and law enforcement agencies from countries around the world have stepped in to protect consumers.
To remain compliant with various data protection rules and regulations, such as the GDPR, companies must adhere to strict data protection rules, including encryption.
That can be achieved with encryption hardware, such as ClevX’s new solution, or software such as Folder Lock (opens in new tab) or AxCrypt.
