Is this the BEST goal ever disallowed by VAR? Youri Tielemans scores stunner that slams onto the crossbar against Leeds… but Leicester star is devastated when his goal-of-the-season contender is scratched for offside
- Youri Tielemans thought he had scored an incredible goal against Leeds
- The Leicester midfielder hit the crossbar from outside the penalty area
- But watched in terror as his attempt was subsequently ruled out for offside by the VAR
The VAR rightly denied Youri Tielemans a contender for the goal of the season during Leicester’s visit to Elland Road on Tuesday evening.
Both sides went into the midweek clash needing vital points to move away from the Premier League relegation zone.
Foxes midfielder Tielemans looked to have given Leicester a crucial advantage in the 7th minute after his missile strike clattered in from the crossbar.
Leicester won an early corner as they pushed on for an opening goal against Javi Gracia’s struggling Leeds side.
England international James Maddison caused a stir in the center of the box, his thrashed throw bouncing off numerous players before finally rolling towards Tielemans.

The Belgian celebrated after thinking he had put the Foxes up front against Leeds
The Belgian then hit the ball for the first time from just outside the box and saw his powerful shot hit Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier between the sticks.
His effort ripped through a crowd of players and clattered in off the underside of the crossbar, but was later disallowed after a VAR check to cheers from the home crowd.
A check showed Leicester midfielder Boubakary Soumare was in an offside position when Harvey Barnes’ first header clattered into him.
The Frenchman then came offside again and reacted fastest in the penalty area to a loose ball, which he then shot into a waiting Tielemans who was ready to attack.
At half-time, Liverpool legend and Ballon d’Or winner Michael Owen praised Tielemans for his superb shooting technique.

Tielemans (blue top) complained to the linesman after he saw his goal taken away from him
Owen explained on BT Sport: “He (Tielemans) has done that before, no fluke. He’s one of the best strikers on a ball.’
Leicester would then regret their missed opportunity after Leeds went ahead just 13 minutes later through Luis Sinisterra’s header.
If Tielemans’ goal had stood, it could have been one of his last attempts in a Leicester shirt.
The Belgian is out of contract in the summer and is likely to leave in search of a new opportunity elsewhere in the Premier League or abroad.
