Is the UK stock market finally ready for a moment in the sun? This is the Money podcast

It may be a long wait for a record high in the FTSE 100, but for starving British investors this week has been a treat.

The FTSE 100 hit four record highs, with only Wednesday’s slight dip would have disrupted a perfect week-long run.

The return to new highs on Thursday came as a bid for a mega mining merger from BHP to Anglo American arrived – and that was quickly followed by one of the few British tech stars Darktrace announcing it had accepted a bid on Friday.

Are these the catalysts fund manager Nick Train was talking about when he said it could take a big takeover to shake UK shares out of their slumber and get the world investing in Footsie companies again?

On this week’s podcast, Georgie Frost, Tanya Jefferies and Simon Lambert look at what’s moving the UK market, why it’s considered cheap and whether you should invest.

Plus the best mutual funds for pension investments and the latest twist in the state pension supplement saga.

Should we cut estate taxes – or at least clean up the mess – as revenues soar?

And finally: are you a backseat driver? See if you can pass the test.

On a roll: The FTSE 100 has had a strong run over the past six months and has now reached new highs
