- The Rock will team with real-life cousin Roman Reigns at WrestleMania this year
- He was supposed to face Reigns, but now has to go to the first night of the show
- Whether he could perform more often later this year has now been discussed
According to a report, The Rock could stick around WWE a little longer than WrestleMania.
Dwayne Johnson returned to the company early this year and initially challenged real-life cousin Roman Reigns to a match at WrestleMania before Cody Rhodes.
However, the fans’ reaction meant that WWE had to act immediately and change the fight, with supporters eager to see Rhodes face Reigns after winning the Royal Rumble match in January.
That led to The Rock turning heel, aligning himself with Reigns and setting up a tag team match at WrestleMania on night one alongside his cousin to face Rhodes and Seth Rollins.
Although he hasn’t performed in the ring in over a decade, Johnson could have more than one match in his current stint, with the Wrestling Observer Newsletter report that he could return to action later this year.
Another major update has been given about the future of wrestling with The Rock (pictured) in WWE
He will tag with real-life cousin Roman Reigns (right) on the first night of WrestleMania next month.
The pair will take on Cody Rhodes (pictured) and Seth Rollins, before Reigns faces Rhodes on night two
The tag match will take place on the first night of WrestleMania’s main event on April 6, with the match having major implications for Reigns vs. Rhodes on night two.
If the Bloodline duo win, the match – which will be for the WWE Championship – on night two will be a ‘Bloodline Rules’ match, allowing others to get involved in the fight.
If Rhodes and Rollins win, The Bloodline will be banned from ringside, allowing Rhodes to take on Reigns on his own after Solo Sikoa, another cousin of Reigns, helped him win the pair’s first match last year.
Later this year, WWE will head to Saudi Arabia, with the thought that The Rock could appear on that card as well.
The Rock hasn’t wrestled in the ring in eight years, but could expect more appearances this year
The tag match on night one of WrestleMania has been building up on TV for several weeks
No show has been confirmed for Saudi Arabia yet, but the company is expected to travel to the Middle East given their partnership with the country and regular visits.
They are said to be looking at May as a possible month to hold the event, but discussions are still ongoing and it is said that it is hoped within the company that The Rock will be at the event.
The plan would be to have him wrestle more than once this year, with a possible third appearance on another Saudi show also planned.
