The couple have refused to deny that Lowden, 32, fell on one knee during a walking holiday in Perthshire last July.
Rumors started after the Scottish actor shared a photo on Instagram of Ben Vrackie’s view, with a hand resembling that of Ms Ronan wearing a diamond ring.
Further speculation was fueled after the couple bought a three-bedroom end-terrace Victorian property in the chic north London enclave of Islington.
The couple first met in 2018 on the set of the Mary Queen of Scots film, which starred Ms Ronan in the title role and Lowden as her husband, Lord Darnley.

The Irish actress is considered one of Hollywood’s rising stars, with four Oscar nominations for her roles in films such as Atonement and Brooklyn.
She recently teamed up with Paul Mescal, a fellow Irish superstar from the BBC hit series Normal People, as an unhappily married couple in the sci-fi drama Foe.
Lowden, who grew up in Oxton, Berwickshire, won critical acclaim for his portrayal of criminal Kenneth Noye in The Gold and also stars opposite Gary Oldman in hit Apple TV+ spy drama Slow Horses.
He met the Irish actress just two years after he got his big break in the 2016 BBC adaptation of War and Peace.
