Is Queen’s aide Angela Kelly honoured by King Charles set to lose her grace and favour home?
Angela Kelly, the Queen’s dresser and confidante for more than 20 years, fears she will have to leave her home of grace and favour, The Mail on Sunday understands.
Friends of Mrs Kelly, a Liverpool dockworker’s daughter who became the Queen’s right-hand man, are concerned she may be another victim of the King’s ‘property merry-go-round’.
It had been understood that Ms Kelly, 65, would be given a life sentence following her decades of loyalty to the late Queen.
But sources said last week they believed she was due to vacate her modest semi-detached house on Windsor Estate “within weeks”.
Mrs. Kelly has just been awarded special honors by King Charles on the occasion of the Queen’s death. However, she only became a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, rather than a Dame Commander, as might be expected.

“She has been told she will have to move soon. It’s a nice little place on the Windsor Estate and it was useful to see her grandson, who attended university nearby,” a source said. Pictured: Windsor Castle courtyard
Many in the royal family were suspicious of her, and one insider wondered if “scores were being settled.” A source said: “She has been told she will have to move soon. It’s a nice little place on the Windsor estate and it was handy to see her grandson, who was at university nearby.
‘But the king has made it clear that under the new regime people will have to cut off their clothes. It is clearly not the king’s custom to accommodate people who no longer work for the monarchy.’
A Palace insider said the “writing was on the wall” for Ms Kelly after the Queen died in September. Within days, the locks had been replaced on all the cabinets to which she had keys.
She was nicknamed AK47 – a pun on her initials and the Russian assault rifle – because of her quick temper. Triple-married Ms Kelly is said to have thrown a bag of rubbish at a member of the catering staff after her lunch was served late for an inauguration.
But her biggest mistake seems to have been feuding with senior Royals. When Prince Harry said last year he visited his grandmother to make sure she was ‘protected’ and had ‘the right people around’, it was seen as a swipe at Ms Kelly.
This followed reports of ‘Tiaragate’, in which Harry and Ms Kelly got into a fight over a tiara that the Prince’s then-fiancée, Meghan Markle, was to wear to her wedding in 2018.
Meghan wanted it in advance so she and her hairdresser could figure out the best way to wear it, but it’s believed Ms Kelly got in the way. Harry is said to have told her, “What Meghan wants, Meghan gets.”
He denied saying this in his memoir, Spare, but did write, “She [Ms Kelly] was obstructive. Angela was a troublemaker and I didn’t need her as an enemy.’
When the King’s reign began, there was no clear new role for Mrs. Kelly. The Queen Consort already had a sideboard. The Queen was thought to have made provisions for Mrs. Kelly. However, now she could be cast out of the royal fold.

Ms. Kelly began working at the palace after meeting the Queen and Prince Philip during their visit to Berlin, where she was housekeeper to the British ambassador. She told them she wanted to return to Britain and was later offered a job at the palace. She became Assistant Dresser to the Queen in 2002 and then Head Dresser.
She was praised for revamping the Queen’s image with outfits in striking colors and hats to match. As the Queen’s health declined, Mrs. Kelly became more of a personal assistant. The Monarch once said to her, “We could be sisters.”
There were rewards for her loyalty. Ms Kelly – who regularly wore new shoes for the Queen because their feet were the same size – lived in a cottage on the Windsor Estate and moved to another property in 2021.
In recognition of her work – and perhaps knowing that no such permission would be granted after her death – the Queen had her publish two books revealing details of her role: Dressing The Queen and The Other Side Of The Coin: The Queen, The Dresser And The Wardrobe.
Charles would have been shocked by the intimate details, such as behind-the-scenes details of Prince Philip’s funeral.
When the Queen made Windsor Castle her home in her senior year, Mrs. Kelly was given the room next door. Charles would have felt that she turned up her TV too loud.
Now she is seemingly stripped of the privileges of palace life. But she may have the last laugh. Her publishing deal is for three books. Given how close she was to the Crown, the third could be the most revealing yet.
