Nike is about to celebrate Pride Month with the launch of a “gender-inclusive” clothing line for children, according to an email allegedly distributed to staff.
A email shared internally says the Beaverton, Oregon-based company will “shine the spotlight on its groundbreaking gender-inclusive “Kids One Fit” apparel and wrap up the conversation about trans-inclusion in sports with a special screening of “Changing the Game.”
Nike will host a series of events and activities in June and July under the theme ‘Together We Are Undeniable’. ‘.
It comes just two months after a controversial collaboration with Face-of-Bud Light and trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney sparked backlash from some feminists over the decision to give sponsorship for a women’s line to a transgender woman, one woman went so far as to burned bra in protest of Nike’s deal.
An apparently internal email said the company would be highlighting Kids One Fit clothing in June
Dylan Mulvaney has been pictured in her Nike partnership, which sparked backlash in April
It is not clear from the email obtained by the Daily Wire where the email came from within Nike.
But, it says, the new clothing line comes “in collaboration with Nike Kids Design.”
Earlier this year, Nike announced its first-ever gender-neutral athletic apparel collection, including trainers and unisex apparel in a variety of adult sizes.
Adidas also has issued a Pride 2023 collection, featuring male-presenting models in women’s bathing suits – for which they received backlash and support from divided onlookers.
Target became one of the hottest stories when it launched a Pride collection that included “crease-friendly” swimwear.
Earlier in June, it was reported that the company had lost $12 billion in market value since mid-May, with a former Target exec saying the campaign was its “biggest mistake.”
The email obtained by the Daily Wire revealed that Nike has apparently pledged $600,000 to LGBTQ groups, including Camp Lightbulb, the National Center for Lesbian Rights and GLSEN.
On July 11, employees will have the opportunity to “join the Human Rights Campaign, Portland Community Football Club’s Kaig Lightner and Dr. Blair Peters of the OHSU Trans Health Program for a panel and Q&A to discuss policies impacting the transgender community.”
Dr. Blair Peters also received backlash last year for a since removed tweet a comment about having performed mastectomies on three young adults and adolescents in one day.
The surgeon claimed at the time that all supportive parents were present and “you could see the family’s relief as soon as we drove back to the OR.”
More recently Peters shared a post on Twitter about “disinformation” and “hate.”
‘Gender-affirming care is giving alive. For some, it’s life-saving,” they said.
Nike’s email also referenced Nike’s inaugural Pride Community Fair.
The July 13 event will showcase local queer, women and minority businesses and will include “activations like “Taco About It” and a “family-friendly Drag Story Time.”
While Oregon leans Democratic, it has seen conflict over drag readings in the past.
Last October, a drag queen story event led to violent clashes outside a bar.
ACLU defeated several proposed anti-LGBTQ+ laws impacting health care and education in Oregon.
There have been no successful attempts to ban such measurements in the state at the time of writing.
Daily Wire journalist Spencer Lindquist said the outlet obtained the “leaked” email from Nike
Some online reacted critically to Nike’s sponsorship deal with trans woman Dylan Mulvaney
Some online were not happy and spoke out against the decision to make Mulvaney the face of Nike
Montana became the first state last month specifically prohibit people dressed in transvestites from reading books to children in public schools and libraries.
Republican Governor Greg Gianforte signed the bill into law because he “deems it wildly inappropriate for small children, especially preschool and elementary school children, to be exposed to sexualized content,” said spokesman Kaitlin Price.
The law is unique among states’ attempts to block drag performances, as no sexual element to a performance is required for it to be banned.
The status of trans women in sports has proved a point of contention in recent months.
In late May, Caitlyn Jenner spoke out after a trans woman made headlines for taking second place in a 1600-meter race.
The former Olympic decathlete wrote on Twitter: “As “somewhat” of a track star herself, and a trans person, this is wrong!!!
She shared a link to her political action committee, Fairness First, which aims to “keep boys out of women’s sports.”
After the race, Riley Gaines also called on female athletes to boycott events and give governing bodies “a big thumbs down” after Johnson missed out on our third-place finish.
Gaines has become one of the louder voices arguing against the inclusion of trans athletes in women’s sports.
Last year, she tied for fifth place against trans swimmer Lia Thomas at the NCAA Championship.
