Will Gossip Girl return with the original cast after the reboot series was axed? Fans are infuriated by a cryptic tweet from an official account
Gossip Girl fans have become irate over a cryptic tweet suggesting the cast of the original series could be reuniting.
Gossip Girl’s official Twitter account shared a photo of the six protagonists from the popular teen drama alongside a “welcome back” message.
It said, “Welcome back, Upper East Siders. After being away for a long time, I see it didn’t take you much time to soil the blank slate I gave you.’
Fans quickly flooded the comment section demanding to know what the tweet meant and whether it hinted at a possible Gossip Girl reunion.
One user asked, “WHAT DOES IT MEAN” while another said, “If this has nothing to do with THE CAST IN THIS PHOTO, you can keep it.”

Another added, “I’d die for a more “mature” Gossip Girl with the original adult cast. Marriage, children, inheritance, everything.’
The original show, which ran for six seasons, followed the lives of privileged teens who attended an exclusive Manhattan private school and the mysterious blogger who anonymously shared their scandalous secrets.
Based on the novel series of the same name, it starred Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Taylor Momsen, Chace Crawford, Penn Badgley and Ed Westwick.
A reboot series featuring a new cast of characters premiered on HBO Max but failed to have the same impact as the original and was canceled after two seasons.
Actor Ed Westwick previously told MailOnline that he would be more than happy to reprise his role as bad boy Chuck Bass in a future reunion.
He revealed, “Me wouldn’t say no. It would be cool! I don’t know if that’s a direction they could go in though!
“I’m amazed and it feels crazy to be a part of something so big,” Ed confessed. “It was a big part of my life then and it still is, and now with the reboot an entire generation can enjoy it.”
The fan base certainly hasn’t wavered over the years, with Ed admitting, “People come up to me and call me Chuck all the time.”

“It’s hard when you’re on TV every week at someone’s house for five and a half years. It’s a very personal experience and people think they know you.’
It’s an experience shared by his former co-stars, with whom Ed still keeps in touch from time to time.
He revealed that earlier this year he had CHace Crawford – who played Nate Archibald – for the first time in five years and it was like no time had passed.
“We picked up like this!” he explained. “We joked like we were 25 again.”
Since the show’s end in 2012, the cast has been busy with other projects.
