From it’s crystal clear turquoise waters to exclusive beach clubs and high end restaurants, Albania is proving to be a surprising summer holiday hit with social media users.

The destination, which is located between Montenegro and Greece, has seen a boom in popularity post-pandemic, with many British holidaymakers travelling to the country.

Travel experts are crediting social media with having promoted Albania as an ‘under-the-radar destination, with Ellie Marr, an Albania specialist at Regent Holidays, telling The Times: ‘They’re big social media users over there and they have capitalised on that.’

She continued: ‘It’s the case that people have seen it in pictures, they’ve heard about it, and realise it’s a stunning country for its coast and its natural beauty.’

Many social media users boast about how it is an unknown location, which is just a fraction of the price of neighbouring countries like Greece and Croatia.

In one video, shared by British user @_Reena_rai, she described ‘five reasons to visit the Riveria’, saying: ‘It’s basically Greece on a budget. The beaches are gorgeous, you can always get a lounger.

‘It’s really quiet and non-touristy. The food is absolutely incredible and the wine is super cheap.’

‘For such a small country, Albania comes close to having it all.  It’s also one of the most affordable countries I’ve ever travelled to, so it’s just perfect for budget travellers and backpackers.

‘Every day was pure adventure…there are so many cute villages to explore and things to discover.’

Marr called it ‘one of the last truly budget destinations in Europe’ and suggested it’s popularity will only continue to grow as the cost of living crisis hits Brits.
