Irish superstar Katie Taylor will face Amanda Serrano in HUGE co-main event to Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson this July on Netflix, as she relishes ‘the rematch the world has waited to see’

Katie Taylor is enjoying ‘the rematch the world has been waiting for’ after it was announced she will defend her status as undisputed light welterweight world champion against Amanda Serrano on July 20.

The rivals made history as the first female fighters to headline New York’s famed Madison Square Garden two years ago, with Taylor gaining the upper hand via split decision in an action-packed lightweight contest.

A return fight will take place at 140lbs as the co-main event of Jake Paul v Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, broadcast by Netflix, which has more than 260 million paid memberships worldwide.

It will be the third live sporting event shown by the streaming giant, following a famous golf event last November and a tennis exhibition between Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal in March.

“This is the rematch the world wanted to see and I’m thrilled it’s finally happening,” said 37-year-old Taylor.

“The first fight in New York was clearly an epic event and it more than lived up to expectations, and I’m sure the rematch will be no different.”

Taylor captured the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO light-welterweight titles in November by defeating Chantelle Cameron, who handed the Irish fighter her first professional defeat six months earlier.

Serrano, who has won world titles in seven weight divisions, moved down to featherweight after losing to Taylor and has won all four fights since.

She was the undisputed world champion at the 126-pound weight limit, but chose to give up her WBC crown to fight 12 three-minute rounds – the standard for the men’s championship – against Danila Ramos last year.

But the Puerto Rican, who has 46 wins to her name – 30 by far – two defeats and one draw in her decorated professional career, will drop to ten two-minute rounds to take on Taylor (23- 1.6KOs).

“I promised my fans that they would see this rematch after we made history at MSG,” said the 35-year-old Serrano.

“It feels like a dream come true to know that Katie and I can finally make it happen on the biggest possible stage to show the world what elite women’s boxing is all about.

“While my focus remains on giving women the choice to fight under the same rules as men, I have always said this is the only fight I would go back to 10×2 for, if that is what Katie wanted.

‘I’m coming to get her belts, she wants 10×2, so that’s what we’re going to do. I believe I won our first fight, but I didn’t get the decision, so this time I won’t leave it to the judges.’
