Irish sports star’s fiance is found dead in river tragedy
The fiancée of Irish sports star Conor Loftus has been found dead in a river tragedy in County Mayo.
Róisín Cryan, 28, was tragic restored from the River Moy on Saturday morning, local media reported.
She was identified as the partner of Gaelic footballer Conor Loftus, 29, who plays for Crossmolina Deel Rovers.
Tributes continue to pour in for the late Mrs Cryan, remembering her as a ‘beautiful soul’ and sending her condolences to the family.
“My deepest condolences to Róisín’s family, fiancé and friends on her tragic passing. I lived with Róisín in Dublin for a while and she was always such a sweet, kind and friendly girl,” one mourner wrote on the rip.ie page.
“May Róisín’s soul rest in peace. I am keeping you all in my thoughts at this heartbreaking time.”
The All-Ireland intermediate football final between Ballinderry and Crossmolina Deel Rovers, scheduled for Sunday, was postponed due to the ‘tragic events’ linked to the club. The club has passed on requests for privacy from those affected.

Mrs Cryan’s body will be taken to St Mary’s Church in Carrick-on-Shannon tomorrow ahead of the mass and funeral on Wednesday.
News of Ms. Cryan’s death resonated widely in the community.
A page set up to collect sympathetic tributes received dozens of heartfelt messages from sympathizers.
“Roisin was such a lovely person, always with the friendliest smile,” Shannon McDermott and Fergal Harman recalled in a tribute.
“May you find comfort in the love and support around you and strength to face the days ahead. We keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace, beautiful Roisin.’
‘I am thinking of Roisin, her family and partner Conor at this time. Sending you all the love and strength to get through this unimaginably painful time. Roisin was a beautiful and brilliant friend who would light up any room. Rest in peace,” wrote Yvette O’Connor.
Her obituary said she will be “sadly missed by her heartbroken family.”

Crossmolina Deel Rovers said in a later message that they would like to ‘extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late Róisín Cryan, especially her parents Joe and Marguerite, fiancée Conor Loftus, sisters Annmarie, Clare, Ruth and Maeve, Clare’s fiancée Eugene, the Cryan and Loftus families’.
Conor Loftus is an acclaimed Gaelic footballer and has played in midfield for the club since 2013.
He scored a goal in the 2017 All-Ireland football final.
Roisin will be buried at Drumlion Cemetery on Wednesday after a mass.
