Ireland rugby star says only ONE Wallabies player can sled – while labeling rest of team ‘not very witty or smart’ and predicts ‘war on the pitch’ when sides meet
- Mack Hansen knows several Wallabies well having played for the Brumbies
- Believes only one member of the team is mentally sharp enough to sled well
- Winger says Aussies will be dangerous opponents after shock loss to Italy
Irish winger Mack Hansen has taken a hilarious shot at the Wallabies ahead of Sunday’s game, revealing he thinks there is only one member of the team mentally sharp enough to come up with quite an insult.
The Canberra-born Hansen – who has represented Ireland in eight games after making his debut for them this year – played alongside several Aussies during his four seasons with the Brumbies and did not hold back when asked to rate his opponents.
“They can’t sled,” he said.
‘”White person” [Wallabies scrum half Nic White] will be merry as always, but the rest are not very witty or clever.’
Hansen got to know several Wallabies very well during the four seasons he spent with the Brumbies before making his debut for Ireland earlier this year
He says only scrum half Nic White (pictured playing against France earlier this month) is capable of delivering a witty sled
The tongue-in-cheek remarks are likely to be taken with good humor by Hansen’s former teammates, for whom he still has plenty of time.
“All Brumbies boys, I’m great buddies. I grew up with Lachy Lonergan and Nick Frost was my roommate at home,” he told the The Sydney Morning Herald.
“Obviously that’s going to be a pretty funny one, but then there’s other guys like Tom Wright, all the forwards, all the ‘usos’ [Samoan for “brother”] in the team.
“It’s about going to battle on the field and then just being able to laugh about it and enjoy a beer or two in peace.”
The Irish are firm favorites heading into the Dublin game at 7am Sunday (AEDT) as the Wallabies look to reverse a shock run of form that has seen them struggle to beat Scotland, end a heartbreaking one-point loss against France and falling against Italy for the first time in their last three outings.
The Aussies have been flung from pillar to post after losing to Italy for the first time ever last weekend – and Hansen insists that makes them dangerous
However, Hansen insists his team doesn’t take the Aussies lightly – and he predicts they will bounce back hard after receiving waves of criticism after losing to Italy last weekend.
“They have such world-class players. Losing will definitely have blown smoke up their asses,” he said.
“They’re going to come out with all the guns ablaze… it’s going to be a great game.”
