A single Irish woman living in Australia has opened up about her struggles with dating Down Under and sought advice on the unofficial ‘rules’.
Jade has been ghosted and ‘lectured’ while trying to meet men in Sydney, leaving her confused and unsure of what to do.
She shared her frustrations on TikTok and asked others for insight into dating culture, but many women admitted they were “equally confused” and “in the trenches.”
‘Hello, can someone explain to me how the Australian dating rules work? Because I don’t fucking understand it,” Jade said.

She added: “I don’t understand. I feel like if you say something wrong, you keep reading.
“The number of dates that have been set up and the guys never text me again has never happened anywhere else in the world.”
She said “every woman” she speaks to has had the same experience.
“I just want a mullet boyfriend, is that too much to ask?” Jade joked.
Fellow singles gave honest advice on the subject and the video quickly went viral.

‘Dating in Australia is like walking into a carnival with a red flag. Do not bother. I have cats now,” one person admitted.
‘Dating isn’t really a thing here. You connect and when you have a feeling you keep connecting until eventually no one leaves and then you’re a couple,” wrote another.
A third added: ‘We have no rules. You’re just fighting for your life.’
Someone else joked: Australian here! I also do not know it. I hope that helped.’
Since the clip’s publication, Aussies have shared their own struggles and guidance in an effort to help Jade.
Alisha shared a reaction video and is happy to share her tips when it comes to looking for ‘the one’.
First, she recommended “never” giving your date your Instagram account — she didn’t specify why, but most agreed it was for security and privacy reasons.
Then she added, “Don’t feel guilty if you’re talking to multiple people, because the Lord knows the man you’re talking to is talking to multiple women.”
The third and perhaps most controversial point was to ‘run’ if someone you are dating is from Bondi.
‘Just remember the hot summer mantra for girls: Australian men are here for a good time, not for a long time. So if you want to find yourself a man, you might as well pack your bags and move to Europe,” she said.
