Ipswich Town are looking to sign two attackers to strengthen their attacking line-up for the new season.

The Tractor Boys, who are returning to the Premier League after a 22-year absence, have agreed a deal with Blackburn Rovers for striker Sammie Szmodics.

Szmodics, who topped the Championship goalscoring charts last season with 27 goals in 44 games, will undergo a medical at Ipswich on Friday.

Kieran McKenna’s team have also launched an investigation into the arrival of Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

Mail Sport reported this week that Chelsea are looking to recoup £200million by selling up to 10 players after £54million signing Pedro Neto became their 12th summer transfer.

Broja is widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge, given the club’s wealth of attacking talent. The Albanian is also on Stuttgart’s wish list and is also admired by Wolves.

The 22-year-old was included in Chelsea’s squad for their tour of the United States but was used sparingly as the Blues relied on the likes of Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu in the absence of injured Nicolas Jackson.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham, but failed to start for the Cottagers.

Ipswich had been interested in Szmodics throughout the summer transfer window.

They had made a £7million bid for the 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international earlier this summer, but are now understood to have reached an agreement with Blackburn over a transfer fee

In addition to winning the Golden Boot of the second division last season, Szmodics was also selected for the championship team of the season.

His form earned him his first international appearance for Ireland, starting the 0-0 draw with Belgium in March.

Meanwhile, Ipswich are also set to sign Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips on a season-long loan.

The Englishman has struggled to get playing time at the Etihad Stadium in recent years, adding to a disappointing loan spell at West Ham last season.

Despite travelling to the United States with Man City as part of their pre-season tour – where he played at centre-back – Phillips failed to impress Pep Guardiola.

However, he could be a smart signing for Ipswich on loan, with the Tractor Boys already having signed Omari Hutchinson, Jacob Greaves, Arijanet Muric and Liam Delap.

Ipswich open their Premier League season at home to Liverpool on Saturday.
