Ipswich suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday and the Blues player had a day he wants to forget.

A 96th-minute winner from Bryan Mbuemo saw the Bees stage a comeback from two goals behind to win 4-3 in an action-packed Premier League match on Saturday, which kept the home side’s home form alive.

The visiting side were reduced to 10 men in the 69th minute when Harry Clarke was sent off, making the Englishman only the second man to put his name on an unwanted Premier League record.

As Opta revealed, Clarke became only the second player in Premier League history to score an own goal, concede a penalty and be sent off in the same Premier League match.

He follows in the footsteps of Jan Bednarek, who did the same with Southampton against Manchester United in February 2021.

Newly promoted Ipswich would have been confident of their first win of the season after taking a 2-0 lead in the opening 31 minutes through Sam Szmodics and George Hirst.

But Brentford had other ideas as they hit back through Yoane Wissa and a Clarke own goal to level matters at half-time before taking the lead through Mbeumo’s penalty in the second half.

Ipswich were then reduced to 10 men with the sending off of Clarke, who had earlier scored the own goal and given away a penalty, but defied the odds to level through substitute Liam Delap’s goal in the 86th minute, after which Mbeumo won the match on time. supplemented with a long distance effort.
