iPhone weather app is DOWN: Apple users worldwide can’t see forecasts on their smartphones

iPhone users around the world may need to pack for all weather conditions if they go out today because the Apple Weather app is down.

Instead of showing live predictions, the app shows a blank screen with only the location when opening the app.

The System Status site for Apple indicates that the weather feature is experiencing an issue that affects “some users.”

It adds that the problems started at 04:00 BST today, but gives no information on when they might be resolved.

The app doesn’t seem to work well for various Apple operating systems; iOS, iPadOS and macOS.

However, some find that the Apple Watch app, which uses watchOS, works normally, according to 9to5Mac.

The precipitation, temperature and air quality maps still work, albeit slowly.

Other popular Apple services, such as the App Store and Apple Music, are still working properly.

Apple’s support note adds that “precipitation may not be available for Alaska for the next hour due to a data provider outage,” but the issue has been ongoing all day and extends to devices further away than Alaska.

Users have taken to Twitter to express their confusion over the outage.

One said, ‘Who cares? #AppleWeather is down again? What is happening? I can’t function without my weather.’

Another added: ‘Weather app is down so now I don’t know what to wear tomorrow’

The official Twitter page for Apple Support responds to disgruntled users, saying it is “looking into the issue” and asking them to direct any questions they may have.

Some say the Weather app issues started right after the iOS 16.4 update, which came out last week.

The new operating system comes with a range of new features, including the addition of 21 new emoji to the keyboard.

This includes the long-awaited pink heart icon, as well as a shaking face (“I’m shook”), a moose, stem ginger, the Wi-Fi symbol, and a pair of maracas.

The Weather app issues also come just a week after Apple briefly relaunched the popular Dark Sky weather forecasting app.

Dark Sky provided “hyper-local” weather forecasts by location, including minute-by-minute forecasts and smartphone alerts.

The tech giant acquired the rival app in 2020, moved some features to its own Weather app and shut down the original early this year.

The copied features include lightning forecasts, 10-day forecasts, and severe weather alerts, which were installed as part of the iOS 16 update.

But the Dark Sky app temporarily came back to life last week due to an apparent server error on Apple’s end 9to5Mac.
