- Users say they were asked to enter their PINs first thing in the morning
- This indicates that an iPhone reboot happened on its own
iPhone users have taken social media by storm this week amid concerns that their smartphones are turning off in the middle of the night.
Users say they were asked to enter their PINs first thing in the morning, suggesting a reboot happened by itself.
Meanwhile, others noticed a gap of several hours in their iPhone’s iOS battery health graph.
Taking to Reddit, several frustrated users complained that the issue even caused their alarms to not go off.
Here’s what to do if your device is affected by the problem.

The issue was first flagged by 9 to 5 Macafter a reporter noted that Face ID wouldn’t work without first entering the passcode.
Taking to Reddit, 9to5Mac found they weren’t alone, with several reports of similar shutdowns.
“This morning I happened to wake up on my own around 5am, late for work, and noticed that the alarm screen was up with the snooze option on it, but my phone didn’t wake me up,” one Redditer posted.
‘I assumed I might have slept through my alarm, which is still weird because it’s never happened before.
‘I went to work (from home), and my son usually gets up at 7:30 for work, and around 7:50 I noticed that I didn’t see him grinding in the house, so I knocked on his door, and there he was sleeping, and he said “I didn’t even hear my alarm”.
“I told him what happened to me and he held up his phone and it had the alarm screen on like mine.”
One user replied: ‘Just came to this sub to see if it’s just me. My alarms didn’t go off this morning either.’
Meanwhile, another added: ‘Man not mine either. Wtf.’

An easy way to check if your iPhone has turned off at night or not is to open the Settings app and navigate to Battery.
An easy way to check if your iPhone has turned off at night or not is to open the Settings app and navigate to Battery.
There you can see your iOS battery health graph, which shows the battery status over the last 24 hours.
If there is a gap, it indicates that your iPhone was turned off overnight.
‘Check your battery section. Does it show that the phone has been turned off for a few hours? My alarm went off this morning but it required my code to unlock and shows it went off around 1am. Bunch of people ran into this yesterday,’ said a Redditor.
The issue appears to impact a range of models, and not just the new iPhone 15 series.
This suggests that this could be an issue with the iOS 17 software, rather than the hardware.
Unfortunately, Apple has yet to comment on the issue, so if you’re affected, you’ll just have to hang in there until a fix is issued.
MailOnline has contacted Apple for comment.
